My So-Called Life.

God I hated that one most of all: I just wanted to give her a spanking so that she really had something to whine about.

Unusually for me there were no kinky motivations for the spanking that time ;D

And in regards to Buffy, I think that show still qualifies as a teen drama because of the way most episodes dealt with teen coming-of-age issues, and for the way it depicted a strong young adult female character. I think Joss Whedon is the best when it comes to writing strong female hero characters in science fiction. It's a shame his interpretation of Wonder Woman never came to pass.

See, I am not the only one. I watched the Season 2 finale with my sister last night. Man oh man. Quality.

My So-Called Life.

...

Hey, you put the words "teen" and "drama" together, and you get My So-Called Life as far as i'm concerned. Good or bad, that show should be on the list. And, really... i think this list has more to do with which show was on TV while you were actually a teenager. Ya' know... as opposed to how much you hated it as a twenty or thirty-something. If you were a high-school teenager in America in 1994, chances are you grew up with My So-Called Life. And it really seemed to perfectly capture the lame, alterna-crappy, angst-ridden mentality of the time.

I was a teenager when My So Called Life was on, and boy did I hate it. ;D

And you are both right that it has Teen Drama elements, I'm simply saying that, judging by the other shows on the list, it wouldn't count since they are a group of shows that are solely about Teen life without fantasy elements. Well, unless you count the complete fantasy of anyone from Saved By the Bell hanging out with anyone else in the core group. :)

I thought "Saved By the Bell" was a comedy (alledged)?

What about "Felicity"?  "Party of Five"? "Joan of Arcadia" (whether this has a supernatural aspect or not depends on your beliefs, I guess)/  Or "Doogie Houser, MD"?

Having said that, should I say that I haven't watched one of these or most of the others mentioned here?

Watched "Smallville" for several years until I wasn't able to and lost track.  Tried to watch "Freaks and Geeks" but they kept hiding from me - and I can't afford the DVD set.

Here's the thing "Drama" really covers both Comedy and Tragedy. Not to be pedantic or anything ;)

Never watched it but isn't Felicity more of a College Drama?

Oh and tragicomedy which is much more prevalent now than straight tragedy. :)

So really it's not an opposition of comedy and drama but comedy and tragicomedy more often than not.

Didn't she shave her head as well at some point?

even if it's a comedy on the surface, if it gets preachy on issues like sex, drugs, alcohol, peer pressure, "fitting in" and that kinda stuff from a teenager perspective, then i think it qualifies as a teen drama.
