70's Film Class References
« on: January 02, 2008, 11:28:46 AM »
Okay, so I had this class of 70's film last semester, wherein I saw several movuies. I believe there has been at least 1 MST3K reference for each of those films, but I only remember where a few come form directly. The films, and their confirmed references:

Bonnie and Clyde- Design for Dreaming: "Bonnie and Clyde's Death Car!"
Easy Rider
Straw Dogs- Pod People: "Hi there! We're the cast of Straw Dogs!"
Clockwork Orange
Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song "_____ will be back in Sweet Sweetback's Baadass Song!"
The Godfather
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Hearts and Minds
Chinatown- Are You Ready for Marrige: "It's just Campus Town, Jake."
JAWS- Various shows, including Beginning of the End, and Devil Fish: Various references, especially "We're gonna need a bigger boat."
All the President's Men
Network- Wild Wild World of Batwoman: "I'm as MAD AS HELL!"
Annie Hall- Giant Spider Invasion: "There's a spider the size of a buick in that guy's buick!"
Raging Bull

That class, if nothing else, increased my appreciation of old MST3K episodes.
Any idea where the others are referenced?

The Godfather:  "you're now ready to rub out Sonny Corleone" from the short about posture & public speaking.

i think the bonny and clyde's death car comment was actually a reference to the old comercials that used to run for traveling car shows that containind the actual restored car.  it would actually have a part of the comercial where they woiuld say "See Bonnie and Clyde's death car!".  but yeah, many many 70s movies are referenced throughout the run of mst3k.  i know easy rider was referenced a couple times in one of the biker films in the 2nd season.  i'm trying to remember any of the specific clockwork orange references, i know there have been a couple.  i wouldnt be surprised if they had referenced every movie you mention.

The only one I have my doubts on is Hearts and Minds. Otherwise I remember hearing references to each one. I just can't remember where for most.

"That was no boating accident" was tossed around a lot.  One of the last times they used that Jawsy phrase they followed it up with something to the effect of "Oh, wait, I guess it was just a boating accident".

I was just watching Parts: The clonus Horror, and it referenced Godfather.

Clone Boy is running down the hall of the information center, and mike quips out" There's no one guarding my father!"

Very good.  Thought that had gone over most people's head.

There's a shot of a family in "The Deadly Mantis" and someone says "the LaMata's!"  (Raging Bull)

hehe...i was watching Colosuss and the HeadHunters, and i noticed a Godfather reference. During the "climatic" battle scene, Crow says "Italian weddings sure haven't changed." To which Servo adds:" Yeah, and Sonny's upstairs with the Maid of Honor."
