Of course obsessive sports fan are annoying assholes... but people obsessive about anything are annoying assholes... So I don't blame sports.

I've known a number of former college athletes, I've worked with a former D1 football player for the last 15 years. There is no way he would have been able to afford to go to a 4 year university without an athletic scholarship. While he was good enough to get invited to an NFL camp as an extra body, he never had any legitimate shot to make a career out of it... This holds true for the vast majority of college athletes. Most of them become everyday boring professional worker drones. This isn't to say that things haven't gotten out of hand... or that education has taken a backseat for big money football / basketball players... but I don't think you throw out the baby with the bath water.

Yeah, the problem isn't the sport is doing anything.  It's people who act like asses.  And to assume everyone who is into sports is a person who berates you for not being into it is a problem with that person or even how sports are used in a system, not the sport.

I see it as being similar to this moment from understanding comics that is somewhat (but admittedly, not entirely) analogous.

Basically, it's unfair to say that football or football fans are stupid.  There are a lot of stupid or asshole sports fans, but there are those in any form of fandom.  Fans of sci-fi or fantasy can be just as bad in dick swinging contests, trust me.

Punctuation, font size, message clarity and word choice are all things that are important.

Shouldn't she be wearing a cape? Or is she disappointed that she forgot to bring it?

It fell off into a mud puddle due to being poorly sewn.  So dissapointing.

I've been there before. It's not as disappointing as I had hoped.
