I've seen that idea as a tee shirt before, but the 'live action' one beats that, and I think it is clever despite my rather well-known feelings about the franchise.  ;)

This 'cat variation' is currently a tee on www.qwerty.com [it is only available for less than six hours now, as that is all that is remaining on the countdown timer before being discontinued].

To be honest, I could not give any less of a crap that cursive writing has been dropped, but by gosh, it irks me when I have teachers outright tell me that things like grammar, spelling, and other basic forms of literacy are not encouraged to be marked off on students' papers. And this from an English teacher, no less! Made me see red.

Agreed. Cursive had a place. It was a lot quicker to writer in cursive. Now it's a lot quicker to type (and much more legible)

But what good is the ability to see the letters when they don't make words?

Due to my shaking, familiar tremor, I could never do cursive well.  And since that was a medical condition I got by with printing.  Although now that I'm older typing is easier, the tremors get worst over time.

But I agree that it should be taught.  We should take pride in how our writing looks.

I think cursive should be taught, if only because a lot of older shit is written in cursive, and it'd be nice for them to be able to read it.  Just teach it for a couple of years.  I hated it, always printed when I could, but it's still something that could be taught without too much of a problem.

it's interesting: out of the three years (thus far) of marking physics labs, assignments, and exams, there have only been two students who wrote in cursive.
