People often prefer the latter look, it looks more intimidating or some such crap. Me? I like them to have the ears their genes gave them, the same goes for Great Danes.

& pit bulls and all dogs!

People cut the ears of Pitbulls?

Yeah, they do.  A-Holes that fight them will practically remove the ears.  And some people that don't use them for fighting will do it to make them look more fierce.

Michael Richards had a bit in his stand up routine about people mutilating their dogs.  Apparently a friend had his dog's ears clipped and was going to get the tail cut too, but he didn't have enough money.  Richards sarcastically offered to loan his friend the money, plus a little extra in case he wanted to get the poor animal's legs lopped off as well.

Personally, just typing that last paragraph makes me a little queasy.  I can barely stomach cutting a dog's balls off, even though that one is kinda important.  I guess if I ever do get a dog, I'll go for a girl.

Or maybe not.  I'm actually more of a cat person.

If neutering makes you queasy, spaying will really upset your stomach.

Dobermans tails are docked sometime during their first three days of life and it is not a painful or bothersome process.   Most of them do not have their ears cropped any more because the look is really no longer needed and since it is done later in life, the recovery takes awhile and it is a hassle (in my mind).

Naturally, the ears and tails were cut to give the dogs less meat to grap by other animals or criminals while they were protecting humans.

My doberman has both her natural ears and I will never cut them just to make things easier.

Maybe.  I think I'll just take your word for it.  Here are the facts as they stand right now.

1) I know exactly what neutering entails.
2) I don't really know what spaying entails, just that it accomplishes the same goal (sterilization) as neutering.

I think that any further details on spaying qualify as too much information.

He helped found the company that makes that stuff, never tried it but the description sounds pretty bad, mostly canola oil and palm fruit oil, with a little olive oil to make it sound healthy.

In a meeting, he once said that they needed to increase their margins.  He was misheard, and Lee Iacocca's Margarine was born.
