That's just depressing as shit. Fuckin' corporations.
I can relate to this. Reminds me of a meme I saw that I can't find anymore, but it said something like "I don't want to be paid in pizza for my labor. I want cheaper healthcare!"
But namely just from the past year (story time!): A year ago last November, our company went through a pretty huge nightmare of a transition (before the pandemic hit, obviously, which just threw gas on the fire). The good news was we got a catered lunch once a week from some pretty fancy, gourmet local restaurants. The bad news was that we spent 8hrs a day with non-stop calls being yelled at, threatened, etc. Those meals went very quickly from "Ooh! Nice treat" to "Give me my meal. Now." to "Is this job even worth it?" Fortunately, the phase recently ended, things are mostly back to normal now, and we got a
huge unexpected bonus that we absolutely deserved that somehow would've made it worth it had we known beforehand.
FTR, I really enjoy working at this rather small, successful company, and it's extremely far from the corporate impersonality crap you expect. It's more small business problems working themselves out similarly to big business problems.
