TVLinks Shut Down, Owner Arrested!

Ouch. I was just started using that the other day too and now it's gone. How sad. The article is right. People aren't going to rush to buy legitimate content now that tv links is gone. I'm certainly not.

I've always loved that theory; it's like listening to the radio or watching TV, it's there, so you watch it, watching or listening to something doesn't automatically worth paying for

Yeah.  Most of the TV box-sets I own are from series that I've downloaded and wanted to own afterwards.  Perhaps that's part of the reason why TV box-sets sell so well now.

Do they ever think that some of the people who go there to watch said movie have always heard good things about this film but maybe TV never or rarely shows it (like Glen or Glenda, for example) and they don't know if they want to spend the money on a DVD...and after seeing it online would decide they like it enough to want to own it?

Or that maybe being able to see episodes of British TV shows here through the internet would inspire people to talk to PBS or BBC America to buy them to show in the US?  Or give them a market for the DVDs here even though they've never aired in the US?

Or are they really expecting to people to buy things sight unseen....both movies and TV shows?   ::)

That is EXACTLY the mindset that most business are stuck in. It's 20 years out of date, but they just don't want to let go of the way things used to be. People are (or should be, anyway) more discriminating in their tastes these days, because there is SO much shit out there flooding the market... we HAVE to push for our ability to try before we buy, IMO, to try to push some of the crap out of the market once and for all.

For example, I don't care how good a video game is supposed to be... on principle I refuse to buy it unless it has a playable demo, and the demo impresses me. I have never walked into a video game store, seen a game sitting on the shelf, and bought it based on the BS reviews, game description, and 3 screenshots shown on the outside of the box.

And that's the real reason for their financial woes (assuming that they're real)....not downloading.

That and putting out so much shit product.

I've never bothered watching "Heroes"....but thought about watching it online to see if I might be interested in buying the set to see the whole season....

Oh well....lost a potential sale there, Genuises.

I think you still can watch it online at NBC, can't you?

If that's true, then why not let people like TVLinks.com operate?   Free is only okay if everybody has to go to their website?  Makes you wonder what they want to drop into your hard drive while you watch, doesn't it?

(actually, I think you can only see recent shows you might have missed....not all the way back to the beginning)

Bummer. THey also make you sit through some commercials, so I guess that's the difference.

Plus it allows them to gather more reliable data on how many people are willing to watch it online if they are given the option to do so, and demographic information to some capacity (computer specs, IP address and hence your location, etc.).

I just watched Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell episode. It was awesome! I've been wanting to watch that for a long time. Big thanks to trajhver2 for uploading it.
