Christmas Special or New Thing?
« on: December 22, 2007, 06:37:56 AM »
So is this short just a Holiday treat, or will they be taking advantage of the DivX thing to release more $1 shorts from the public domain?

I think Bill mentioned in his Blog Q&A that he really enjoys doing shorts, and now they've got all the technology sorted out, I'm sure we'll see more of them in the future.

Yes.
I work REALLY hard on the site. (Not the forum so much.) I'd love it if you bought me a beer via PayPal!

Was TP being accidentally vague, or funny?

I think he was being purposefully vague.   :D

Seriously, I think the answer to both parts of your question is yes.  It was a holiday treat AND there will be more.

Good, because one of my favourite parts of MST3k were the shorts.  There are SO many public domain short films out there, and ones that are truly just SO bad, it would be a shame to not riff on them.

In short... I want more!!!   :highfive:
...and there he was, reigning supreme at number two.  The One... The Only... The Unabeefer.

I can imagine it would be a little more cost effective for them, too.  We all just paid a dollar for 13 minutes of riffing people! Harry Potter was 4 dollars for two and a half hours!  ;)

Still there is sometimes more joy in a tiny package, than a big one like a full Rifftrax.

Hell some of my favorite MST3k bits were the shorts.

This DOES open up a whole new world to them for Riff-fodder.

I cannot wait to get back home after the holidays to download the sucker...... And find a cheep Divx-certified DVD player.

*that sound you hear is the Rifftrax folks milking our checking accounts dry*

But in this case the video is free, that makes up for a lot of it.  If you want the Harry Potter riff you gotta shell out for a rental or buy your own copy of the dvd before you even get to the 4 dollar riff (assuming you're doing it legally of course)

agreed. I'd rather pay $1 and get a free video and it only be 12 minutes long that to spend $4 and turn around and spend $20 for a 2 hour video.

One thing I'd love to see come out of this would be sets of riffs to go along with DVDs of shorts. I got on a kick a while back of laughing at old educational films and bought 3 sets of DVDs of educational shorts from The Educational Archives. Maybe about $6 and you get a dozen shorts or so. I'd gladly pay that for a bunch of shorts riffs to go with a DVD.
