Director's Commentary
« on: December 27, 2007, 12:28:12 PM »
Anybody else tried listening to this guys commentary?
The parts I did hear were this:
1.  He was worried about whether or not people would get that they had been planning a wedding for a long time.
2.  He wanted to have a LONGER title sequence, and had always dreamed of having a longer title sequence.
3.  didn't get that far...brain shut down...

Yeah, I think I mentioned in another thread that the commentaries included give you a good impression of just how troubled this movie was.  You do have to read between the lines since no one ever comes out and says things like "The studio demanded that we add another fight scene here for the sake of the video game" (though that would be really awesome to hear a commentary track for a recent film that was filled with griping and complaining about how screwed up everything was).

Director, upon seeing Jessica Alba trying to act: "I picked the wrong day to quit amphetamines!"

There is a longer title sequence on the extras. It just shows more planets being destroyed, derivative of Men in Black II, rather than seeming like an arbitrary event. Besides, the first movie had no title sequence at all, so one would indeed dream of actually having one, as if one were watching a superhero movie.

And in regards to the wedding, I think he meant all the supposed cancelled wedding attempts in the past that aren't elaborated on, not this particular wedding in the movie. Again, it looks like an isolated event.

Give the guy a break. He directed TAXI.

This is what makes the commentary tracks for "The Weird Al Show" so enjoyable. He talks about all the things that CBS did to screw up the final product. The commentaries are sometimes more entertaining than the show itself.

I would like to hear something like that.  I listen to the commentary of every movie and TV show I buy, though I usually give rentals a pass.

Some shows, such as Freaks and Geeks and Scrubs contain oodles of the cast fawning over how wonderful it was to work on the show and how much everyone loved each other and all that rot.  Newsradio didn't go that far, though they did seem to be pretty chummy.  Newsradio, though, contained some comments here and there about the network interfering for the worse, in particular changing the show's timeslot, like, 11 times in 5 years.  I think they mentioned something about Khandi Alexander (Catherine) quitting the show because she didn't like Lauren Graham (Andrea, the efficiency expert in a short story arc).

The great thing about news Radio is that they have the head of NBC with them on one of the tracks and they gripe right to his face about how the show was treated by NBC!

There's quite a bit of that kind of thing on the Clerks animated series dvds, complaining at how ABC screwed up.  Not showing the first episode, but showing the second which was a parody of retrospective shows, the joke of which being that they'd only show clips from the first episode, that no one got because no one saw it.
