Star Wars PAL Sync lines
« on: November 01, 2006, 10:28:19 PM »
Started working on these this afternoon, here is what I got.

RiffTrax  |  Line                            |   NTSC PAL
3:36        Tell them we wish to board at once
                    2:04 1:57

4:45        Elsewhere...Elusive...
                    3:13  3:03

8:08        That will hold them
                    6:36  6:18

12:13        If there down here sir, we'll find them
                    10:40  10:12

20:25        They will have no choice but to accept your control of the system
                    18:52 18:04

28:20        The hyperdrive is leaking
                    26:46 25:40

36:59        The queen's wardrobe maybe, but...
                    35:25  33:58

45:41        He was meant to help you
                    44:06   42:19

52:25        The reading is off the chart...Over twenty thousand
                    50:50   48:46

1:00:20      You Jedi are far too reckless
                     58:44   56:21

1:08:09      It's Skywalker!
                     1:06:33 1:03:51

1:16:11      You've been a great pal
                    1:14:35 1:11:34

1:23:27        I must speak with the Jedi council immediately
                    1:21:49 1:18:31

1:31:08        Do not defy the council master, not again
                    1:29:30 1:25:54

1:39:24      And I can only protect you
                    1:37:47 1:33:50

1:46:35        All of them...
                    1:44:57 1:40:43

1:54:44        That's where the autopilot's taking us
                    1:53:06 1:48:32

2:02:01        My give up...My give up
                    2:00:22 1:55:31

2:08:23        Grave danger I fear in his learning
                    2:06:44 2:01:37

You're welcome.

I also meant to add, I compressed (timewise) the rifftrax by 0.01% and it fit perfectly. It was ~8 seconds out by the last sync line without it.

Having a bugger of a time with the subtitles though.

I've been using Sharecrow for all my Rifftrax, so I really hadn't tried playing with the mp3s much. I've just had a bit of a mess-around in Audacity and found that speeding the Star Wars Rifftrax up by 0.1% puts it in perfect synch with the DVD for the entire duration of the film (I tried 0.01% as you suggested, but that only made 1 second of difference to the running time).

I'm going to have to try this on some of my other PAL Rifftrax now. Thanks for the advice; it's much appreciated.

Cheers,

Cy.

Hm.  Maybe the Rifftrax guys should know about the 0.01% thing.  I have to make minor adjustments all the time during the Rifftrax.

We base our PAL Tempo on settings recommended by PAL users when were testing Roadhouse and Fifth Element.  The setting that they gave to us was an increase of 4.167 percent, so that's what we've been using.  If there's evidence that this can be improved upon, please let us know, but we'll have get more of collective opinion to change anything.

What would be the overall percentage increase from NTSC to PAL, since it is silly to do our first PAL conversion, than another one?

Yeah I did my first 2 with sharecrow (5th Element and Star Trek V) but decided to give making the DVDs a go, and I am much happier with the results overall.  I use audacity as well, using the 'Change Speed' effect with a setting of '0.01', so it could just be that I read what percentage that actually is incorrectly. However I didnt guess that number I actually loaded windows calc and using the last sync line in Star Trek V worked out what percentage out it was and used it from there.

Absolutely, that is why I haven't been sabre rattleling or anything about it, only done 2 PAL DVDs so far. As a Kiwi my DVD collection is a mix of Region 1 and Region 2/4 so out of the 7 rifftraxs I have got so far only 2 have been PAL. See if some more people comment or some more releases.
