Hardware Store is pretty amazing.  Even taking out the comedy, it's just a great song.

Like I said over on the countdown, that song gives me actual chills every time.

I still think Melanie is the perfect Original Weird Al Song. It's got lots of humor yet lots of emotion too.

I find I like very few of his original songs. Especially in the old days, he just didn't have the musical talent to make an interesting song from scratch. Too many have repetitive, jokeless choruses that are repeated too often, and almost none of the songs do anything interesting musically. Occasionally you get a gem like Hardware Store, but for the most part, his originals bore me, and even ones I like at first age poorly. Also, although several of his sound-alikes are spot on, some just totally miss the mark. For instance, Skipper Dan fails to capture the essence of Weezer, despite trying too hard to emulate Pork and Beans.

For me, the parodies are definitely the draw of Weird Al. The more sanctimonious or serious the original song is, the better.

I see where you're coming from, but there were a few in the early days I personally really like. I still have a soft spot for "Gotta Boogie"

Mr Frump is one of my all-time favourites.  And Nature Trail To Hell is f***ing AMAZING.
...and there he was, reigning supreme at number two.  The One... The Only... The Unabeefer.

I love Weird Al's "The Brady Bunch", somehow, it being a parody of Men Without Hat's "The Safety Dance" makes it an absolutely perfect song in terms of comedy, tone and lyrics.

Love Weird Al.  Been to a couple local county concerts where tickets were cheap.  I had (at one point) every album that wasn't a compilation.  The "Nature Trail to Hell" album was stepped on, "Dare to be Stupid" was eaten by the tape-monster and have been repurchased as CD's.  Unfortunately, I haven't been able to repurchase all the CD's in the car when they were stolen by a smash-n-grab.  Funny, cause the thief probably didn't get jack for them.

Am I reading it correctly that the CD set will be in the same size Accordion as the vinyl? (Says the CDs come in LP sized sleeves)

Woo that's a hefty price tag. I mean, I get it. I just don't have the disposable income to splurge.

Shame. I really want that rarity disc.

I believe it will hit iTunes at some point. But yeah, I'm trying to figure out how I can swing the box set because I'm still a fan of Physical Media.

I am going to have to ask my buyers at work if they know anything about this coming in at my store. $300 for the vinyl set (14 heavyweight LPs) is not bad.  But if it is 300 at retail I can get a discount.....  UGH!

Yeah that interview falls pretty soundly in the spectrum of "Relevant to my interests." :^)
