Presume the quotation which is translated imperfectly!
« on: November 13, 2007, 10:09:52 AM »
Or, "Guess the poorly translated quote!"

Here's how it works. Take a famous quotation or the lyrics to a well-known song, translate it to Japanese via Babelfish ( http://world.altavista.com/tr ), and then copy that and translate back into English. Post your result. The next person identifies the quote, and throws in their own mistranslation, and so on and so on. :^)

I'll start us off easy:

"Are small to Mary there was a lamb, a small lamb and a small lamb. The lamb which is small to Mary, was white as a wool snow it was."

I got this going through German-

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. (I translated it through George Bush Jr., too.)

Is you have fortune, you think? Yes? The punk does have?

It's Jaw's tagline "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water", but you got the idea.
