Yeah he's not the bad man the Christian Historians would have one believe (or rather no worse than some of the Christian rulers they laud). He just really disliked Christianity (not hard to understand when you think about his developmental experiences of Christians). I wish he'd not died at such an inopportune time, I wonder what the world would look like now if he'd been successful in reversing Constantine and his sons' establishment of Christianity.

Ooo I love threads like this, I always get the best recommendations this way.

There's a lot more, but I should keep my thread clogging up to a minimum. Oh, and anything by William Goldman, Samuel Fuller, Agatha Christie, Kafka and Douglas Adams are up there too.

I discovered a fairly good ongoing series a while back by Michelle Sagara. It's fantasy, but I like how it's not all elves dwarves and other standard stuff treated in the same way. It does have dragons, but they're the ruling class/race, and the other "immortal" race, the Barrani, are also of the "nobility". Lesser races like humans, leontines, aerian, and so forth all live under their rule, and all of these races are mixed together in a city with a rather complex set of laws with a Dragon Emporer, and fiefs where lords rule, but where the Halls of Law are the authority for "everyone" (mainly the lesser races though, naturally). The overall story follows the trials of a human female law officer who is consider a screw-up that barely gets by, but is of course unique and ends up being the right person for the job whether she wants to be or not.

Book 1. Cast in Shadow
Book 2. Cast in Courtlight
Book 3. Cast in Secret

Right now I'm in the middle of a collection of the all (I think) of the Sherlock Holmes short stories.

Just finished the one where he faces Moriarty for the first and maybe only time (don't tell me whether or not he comes back from the dead, I want to be surprised).
