Yes, Metric is a hallmark of the EU which is something many dislike intensely, and even those who don't use imperial much more redily. Case in point under (EU stipulated) weights and measures law Metric must come first on food and beverage packaging but what happens is the milk will be sold in 0.568L containers with their more familiar volume of 1 pint listed second.

Good.

Weirdly the UK seems to have informally adopted Celsius for warm temps but sticks with Fahrenheit for cold ones?

We mostly use Celsius, but when it's hot we use Fahrenheit because it makes the number higher, so we can complain about the temperature more vigourously.

Other way round: Which sounds colder, which sounds hotter?

No, I mean actual temperature not comparing the identical numbers.

What is 70F in Celsius?

What is 32F in Celsius?

Help me! I'm seeing the benefits of both Metric and Imperial measurements!

Definitely not becoming a Brit then. ;)

From what I understand, Brits use both in their day to day lives.

Read the subsequent posts, we've already gone over the fact that your understanding isn't too deep on this subject. :)

The key point is the "I'm seeing the benefits of both".

Nope 70F is 21C
And 32F is 0C

So, in the winter it makes it seem colder to say "it's 0 degrees  out there" without really specifying that it's degrees Celsius.

Likewise in the summer it seems much hotter if you say "whew, it's 70 degrees in the shade right now!" without specifying that you're talking in degrees Fahrenheit.

Median range is anywhere from about 3 degrees above absolute zero to 10 degrees below the surface of the sun.  Either scale.
