Spending warm summer days, indoors

Writing frightening verse

Shawshank, is one of those movies that, even if you've seen it a dozen times, even if you have it on DVD, when you are flipping through the cable channels, and it pops up, no matter where it is in the story, you have to watch it through.

For me, it is also "Apollo 13" or "The Perfect Storm".

For me, "The Perfect Storm", I always pray to myself, "...this time they will make it!!! DAMN that Ice machine!" But, that may just be me...

I've never seen either Apollo 13 or the Perfect Storm.

Ditto OR Shawshank Redemption.
FINE

It's not due to the age of the films (only one of the last five films I've watched is less than fifty years old), it's to do with a lack of interest. :P

Oh. Well, I think you may enjoy them; Shawshank is based on a Stephen King story and directed by Frank Darabont, who did the only watchable King stories on film, (also Walking Dead). But it is not a horror film, at least, not in the conventional sense. I mean, men who are in prison would say that their life is a horror... certainly.

"Apollo 13" is fact based as is, "The Perfect Storm", however, 13 was directed by Ron Howard and we have a minute by minute NASA telling of that story.... "The Perfect Storm" is the weakest of the lot, as it is fact based, but, it is based on a ship that was lost with all hands, so... how do we know what they said or what was going on before they went down?

I mean, we have Coast Guard accounts, GPS, and radio transmissions and we know they were Gloucester men and we have records of the crew and some background.... but... those last few hours... who knows? Anyways.... good movie, and you always want those guys to make it... this time!

Neither of those people are selling points for me - In fact, both are warning bells...

I've never seen a Ron Howard movie I liked. Frost/Nixon, I guess, made a pretty dull subject pretty watchable, but it's not a movie I'd care to see again I don't think.

Of the three, I think The Perfect Storm is the most likely candidate that I'd have fun with, but I doubt I'll ever see it.
FINE

I agree with you on most Howard films, but 13 was pretty special. Give it a try, it is quite riveting actually, as I was a baby when it happened and I heard about it all my life growing up... plus it is very good film-making...

Shawshank is a very good story, believe me, I think King is a hack most of the time, but, he did manage to leak out SOME good stuff, strong characters, good stories', and Morgan Freeman is just a delight...

"The Perfect Storm" might pull on some heart-strings it can be manipulative in that way... although it is very exciting! Sword-boat fishermen take their lives in their hands every time they go out on the water, and they have a culture all their own.

I enjoyed Willow for what it was, though Val Kilmer may have had something to do with it.

Rewatched it recently? It's unbearable.

My wife was SOOOO in love with Val Kilmer back in the day.... she liked "Willow" just for him! Even as I balked, she dragged me to see it many times in the theatre...*sigh*  Val and Kurt Russell! Although I agree with her on Kurt, he is badass! She's a woman of Mexican descent who likes Irish'y, glow-in-the-dark, white boys... what can I say?
