I despise Christmas, probably because, even though were atheists, my family and I have to do a bunch of religious non sense to appease our extended family. My favorites are Thanksgiving and New Years.

For New Year's Eve my "less extended" family, friends and I get together and eat great food and drink a lot. It is great times. Come to think of it we do the same fro Thanksgiving just less booze and more specific foods.

If you despise it, don't participate.

Or, be glad that, once a year, people give you gifts for no particularly good reason.

It's a tokenism, religion is a very important part of people I loves life so I am more than happy to share the event with them.

Do shops having decorations up or not really effect people's shopping experience enough to get mad about it?

For me it is a mild annoyance at worst.  Generally it is just a thought of, "really?", sometimes accompanied with mild annoyance (if I'm having a bad day), more often with a brief chuckle of amusement.

My Mom asked me what a Douche Bag was and this was the best I could do.

Any other examples.

For Ann it's a bit like that, for me "Christmas" is mostly about Krampus and Dionysus.

This is about all I know about Krampus.

We used to do Kovert Krampus at one of my old jobs.  2007 was unforgettable.  I had all 10 toes before that year's festivities.
