Mmm the smell of lead based solder.

So it's more of a classic fragrance you're saying?
The smell is usually rosin from the flux, or some polyimide from the circuit board. Flux essentially disappears leaving only the scent of pine.

What would it smell like?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
No one really knows, but it does come with a coupon for a different perfume.

It is still in use in a lot of places.  It depends on the industry and where you're shipping, but for a lot of people RoHS isn't required just yet.

What would it smell like?

It wouldn't smell like much itself, but there are a lot of open chemical links in its formulation that allow - over time - mold, mildew and bacteria to grow in it, so you'd start smelling like them and you'd ultimately get sick from it.  [That is, of course, the Microsoft Internet Explorer icon.]

Plus every now and then you have to pour in an update that negates some of the smells while making others smell weird.

Yes, but for standard computer assembly, RoHS or some local variant (e.g. China RoHS) dictates the use of Pb-free solder. The results of the DA-5 consortium will dictate in 2014 whether Pb-free variants are feasible and can be ruled out of the several exemptions (e.g. European ELV legislation)  that may expire in 2016.

I know, it was a play on the idea of discontinued fragrances, I might be the only regular on he interested in perfume history.

What if it there was a sequel calling "the Giving Man" in which the tree's child starts using the human child's body parts for it's convenience.

well, that sidewalk ended rather abruptly. :(

It's more "the giving tree". I hate that fucking book.

Teefury recently had a shirt of the tree saying "get a job". I considered buying it.

Sorry. I don't actually have a sense of smell. I was just pretending to try and fit in with all the popular kids talking about cool things like purfume and stuff. Just wanted to be accepted :(

My father was an electronics hobbyist (more than a hobby, really; his job was building secure communications equipment for satellites) and was always building stuff in his little shop in the laundry room.  He soldered every circuit board in our first computer.  Bought it as a kit.  The interocitor scene in This Island Earth reminded me of the day he got the kit, and made sure all the parts were there.

I miss my old man for many reasons, but I really miss the smell of solder wafting through the house...
Your name and the confusing effect it has when you like things has given me an idea......

Don't apologize, you should never have needed to change the name in the first place! If it's the discussion I am thinking of, it was super childish.

I say go back to "Just the Trax," say "eff off" to anyone who says anything about your name, and....eat cake!

That last part is the most important.

Since it was causing problems, I went with something that shouldn't.  Sorry to any and all I annoyed.
No I didn't mean to sound like I was annoyed.  I just said that it inspired me.

I'll probably change mine back soon though since it just says "You like this." and I never get to experience the effect.
