The Tudors, it would appear, will hold the throne for a least another century, or so.  Good for them.

Well, the royal family then.  I don't live in England, so I don't need to know whatever it is I don't seem to know.

Edit: my sister just told me that it was Elizabeth the first that was a Tudor and the current queen is a Windsor and Charlie will be a Windsor-Montbattsiomething.  Thanks Teri.  I now have a little extra trivia to forget when the Alzheimer's blessedly comes.
Hmmm debatable. Those four are the first monarchs in each of the houses that succeeded the Tudors
Stewart (James VI/I)
Hanover (George I)
Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (Edward VII)
Windsor (George V)

Phil's Mountbatten (much less German sounding that Battenberg, even though that's a delicious cake) but it's because Charles loved his Great Uncle Louis that he might add the name to his House when he ascends, not sure about that though.

I live in a country that is part of the monarchy, and I also can't believe anyone cares.

It's debatable what last name these people had?  Shit, England is pretty fucked up...
No it's debatable whether Charles will change the name of the House, he might  but I don't think it's all that likely.

I think Australia is the country with the highest levels of Republican sentiment in the Commonwealth though.

Yeah, that might be. We voted to stay not that long ago. (Which is bananas to me!)

Yeah what was the margin on that?

But like I say, the reason people are interested, most at least (because there are some international relations  or history people who probably have more of a professional/academic interest) is because it's a huge bit of celebrity gossip with a touch of geopolitics that spices it up further.

I guess I understand why on paper they are interested, but on the other hand: Boring.

(And I don't really remember what the margin was, sorry)

Ouch. I didn't know you'd had one all that recently, I'll have to look up the demographics on that tomorrow, I'm pretty sure you'll be a republic by the turn of the next century if not sooner.

Yeah, I think you're right.

To be honest, I do find it kind of weird that England even still have a Queen. :P

We have people dressed like this

Which we call a horse and which prances about to welcome spring on the coast.

We eat a sponge pudding we call a dick with great gusto.

We annually burn a militant Catholic in effigy.

And you think us still having a Queen is weird?  ;)

Well, yeah, I do, but I also admit it's not the weirdest thing you've got going on.

I just learned that Australians call tram conductors "trammies."  Is that true?

I haven't heard that term, but I live on the other side of the country to the state with trams, and I have only visited it once.

It's quite likely.
