I watch tons of television, yet I have never seen an episode of "Big Bang Theory".

How is that possible?  Around here it's on so often on so many channels I've accidentally watched parts of it several times.  And I hardly ever channel surf any more.

Now, watch an entire episode, start to finish, I don't think I have done that.

The other day I saw an old episode of Friends and a moment of it really stood out at a sign of the changing times.  It was a scene where Ross was talking to his ex-wife who left him after she came out as a lesbian.  In this scene she let Ross know of some big news.  She was going to marry her girlfriend.

And then there was a long pause for laughs.

Today, marriage equality is a pretty consistent topic of debate with more and more people showing acceptance of it and laws legalizing it are on the rise.

In the 90s it was a punchline.  No clever joke about it neccessary, just "a woman wants to marry a woman?  That's hilarious!"

I know, right? I suppose it's because I pretty much only watch what my dvr records.

Maybe the Cosby Show? That was the biggest show running at the same time as the first few seasons of The Simpsons.
Dr. Hibbert's sweaters were a referance to that show.

I still do! Have most of the seasons on DVD.

But, anyway, if you start watching the Simpsons chronologically, you're in for a big treat. The first 8 seasons are truly fantastic television.

Agreed. And they are pretty timeless, too. Not really much dated humor in there.

Yeah, the kids today love jokes about George Bush Sr. and Joe Piscopo! ;)
Well, yeah, there is some. Frankly, the most dated aspect of it is remembering how the stupid conservative parents were so against The Simpsons back then.
