Mid 80s Cattrell? I'd have been up for that.

She did get a bit ghastly later on, didn't she? All smooth and plastic.

Only when people walked in on her and Andrew McCarthy.

I've been listening to the quiz show Brain of Britain on Radio 4 lately.  I really appreciate that it doesn't mess around with gimmicks of any kind and the questions can be incredibly difficult.  Quiz and game shows have gone in such a different way lately that I've lost interest in most of them.  I like shows where the winner is the person who has somehow managed to cram as much obscure information into their brains as possible.

I also now listen to more than one show on Radio 4, so I guess that makes me middle aged.

I just thought of this earlier this week (though others probably though of it ages ago).

To increase the variety of flavors of oatmeal, use fruit juice instead of water to make it with.  Then your oatmeal tastes like whatever heated-up juice you added to it.  [I advise not using it with already-flavored oatmeal, as it tends to become way too sweet since they have sugar added already, so the juice puts it over the top.]

I came up with this because the apple-cinnamon I was eating earlier this week just wasn't 'appley' enough (or cinnamony, but that was easily taken care of).  I had apple juice in the fridge, so next time I used that and - BAM! - apple oatmeal.  I tried the same with some 'Crapple' (my name for the cranberry apple juice I enjoy from Trader Joes) for the cranberry oatmeal I had.  Both were very good if one got past the too-sweet condition.  I plan on just getting plain, unsweetened oatmeal next, and dried fruit (apple, cranberries, whatever).  Since the plain stuff is available in larger containers it'll end up being a lot cheaper than the individual-packet stuff too, as well as being better for the environment.

At least it's not Radio 2....

I've actively listened to Radio 4 since I was ~10.

Yes, sort-of, oatmeal is a subset of porridges.

[Wikipedia: "Porridge (also spelled porage, parritch, etc.,[1]) is a dish made by boiling cereal meals in water, milk, or both. Most commonly made today of oats, it is usually served hot in a bowl or dish. Other grains or legumes may be used, although dishes prepared with these ingredients are often referred to by their unique names, such as polenta or grits.

When oats alone, whether whole-grain, rolled, crushed, or steel cut, are used in the U.S. the dish is known simply as Oatmeal."]

I listen to Desert Island Discs in the bath.  Kirsty Young's voice is quite relaxing.

Is that the stereotype? My wife and I listen to about 5 Radio 4 shows I think. The Unbelievable Truth is awesome on road trips; 2 or 3 will fly by.

Well, that and it's meant for a slightly more highbrow audience than the other channels.  Radio 2 is really the station for oldies... or rather for when radio hosts are too old for the demographic they're trying to cater to on Radio 1.

The only BBC Radio show I ever really followed from station to station were the Mark and Lard shows.  I loved them.

Yeah if you're highbrow and too old for Radio 1 you might end up on Radio 4 or one of the related ones, but if you're sort fo pants, Radio 2 is where you're headed. Was rather surprised Mark and Lard ended up on Radio 2 really.

Mark and Lard seemed to jump around all over the place, seemingly too good for Radio 1 but too funny for Radio 2.  Last time I checked Mark Radcliffe was doing a show with someone else.
