When Dolly passed away the emergency vet sent us a flier for a service run by MSU for people who've recently lost a pet, so they can call a number and speak to somebody about it (they also planted a tree in Dolly's name, I wonder if that's an initiative the Arbor Day Foundation runs for veterinary practises). I don't know if there's a similar service run by a Veterinary School closer to you but I thought it helped (Ann especially) and, if you like, I can go find the flier and give you the number. :)

That would be nice, thank you, although I don't know if I would call it or just keep it on hand. For the most part I do okay, I just have random moments of sadness. Surprisingly, it's harder for me during the work week than when I'm at home, and I guess that's because when I'm home I am busy and not alone, whereas during the week I am left alone with my thoughts.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Arbor Foundation had an in with vet practices. I thought it was odd that my vet donated there and not to a rescue or a shelter, but maybe that's why.

The tree is a great idea. It's also nice that they gave you his ashes. I have a little piece of the wicker basket Chewie used to sleep in and her tags, and that's it.

That's sad about Chewie. We have a bookshelf in our spare room and I put the box with Chance's ashes there. I somehow also had the presence of mind to get his collar and tags when he passed, so that is there, too. The emergency clinic contracts with a sort of pet funeral director, and they really take care of everything. This doesn't surprise me -- I'm betting an emergency pet clinic has to perform euthenasia fairly frequently.

My cat, Baby, was the first pet I ever had kitten to old age. She lived to a ripe 18 years and she was my constant companion. It was 5 years ago that I had to put her down. It still hits me like a hammer when I remember.

You know what would get rid of school shootings completely?

Schools.  A hive of villainy and scum.

Ever just get curious about something and read up on it? My friend thinks I'm mental because I'm currently reading a wiki entry on Greenland for no reason other than simple curiosity. It's an interesting place.

She asked what I was doing, I told her that I was reading about Greenland, and her response was "LOL". I'm not sure why it's so funny other than she thinks I'm weird for doing it (which she said).

I think it's interesting that some people in the United States (MERKA!) are free to deny global warming, but in a place like Greenland, they can see the effects right in front of them. There was an island that no one knew about because it was covered with ice and just looked like a big lump of ice in the ocean, and then the ice melted and everyone was like WTF there's an island there.

Yes, Wiki-spelunking can be tons of fun, same with TV Tropes. :)

When I watch TV I'm constantly looking up references to people or things I don't get that they've said.  Particularly British TV, which is full of them.  This is how I learned that Jimmy Savile was a massive pedophile, and that "innit" is now being used regardless of the previous statement, in nonsensical ways like, "They're over there, innit?"

Yeah, I remember looking up what the hell Hagrid's favorite word "summat" meant when I started reading the Harry Potter books.

I just got done reading the part about Greenland in the Jared Diamond book "Collapse".  It was talking about when the Norse settled Greenland and then The Little Ice Age hit and they went poof.

Yeah, the wiki mentioned the little ice age in the history of Greenland. The colony was doing pretty well there until the ice age hit, and then it was like famine city and everyone was dropping dead. At one point there was so little food that they were throwing the old and infirm off of cliffs to make the tiny amount of food that was left last longer.

All the neo-pagans around and about on the web and I still can't find a decent thyrsus or symbol of Astarte sew-on patch.

So the wife is bringing in new part time help (one guy and one girl) for the tax season and one task I had the guy do was to remove the 2008 tax files out of the file cabinet drawer to make room for 2012 and put those files in a box to be stored in the attic..

First attempt he puts the files in the box 'pancake style' (one on top of the other) ...
Second attempt he puts the files in sideways but vertically where the folder tabs were facing a side of the box.. ::)

Finally I had to break out a box that has the files placed in them Correctly with the folder tabs facing up where you can read them And Then he understood ...

Seriously I Never knew it was this fucking complicated to put file folders in a box ???
