...there are assholes around who think that somehow "fixing the mission statement" will make the problems all go away...
Worked places like that b4 and they're the worst.

Favorite example was a company that brought in high paid consultants to "change the paradigm" ("paradigm" being a word that was used a lot by dumbasses in the 90s to make it sound like they were saying something when they weren't). CEO was a soccer fan and yelled and cussed at people all the time, which in turn the people under him also did. Consultants gave everyone yellow cards and whenever someone started yelling and cussing, the person being yelled at was supposed to throw out a yellow card and both sides were then supposed to take a 10 minute break to calm down. First person who threw a yellow card at the CEO (who was the one who introduced the idea to everyone) was fired on the spot and the whole thing quickly went away.

I don't have anything in the way of experience with the kind of workplace you guys have had so unfortunately I can't give any advice that would be of any use. I think though If I were going to put in my two cents, it would be this: Make everybody feel valued, hopefully that will make those who have trouble pulling their own weight work harder. I know, I know it's probably a case of the pot calling the kettle black when I give advice like that but that's the best I can come up with.

Saw my main therapist today at 5(Which was weird because when I got outside it was pitch black), and we talked mostly about me and how the meds are helping me cope with my bipolar... I'm doing alright. The mania manifests itself in other ways and the other episodes pretty much dominate my mind whenever they start taking over in spite of my meds and mindfulness exercises.

It's not bad advice. It's hard to put into practice, but lots of good advice is.  The problem is that this one guy in my department just fundamentally doesn't want to do work and doesn't think the students should do work either.  I don't see how that can be rationalized as anything but laziness really, and it's anathema to me.  I don't particularly like work but I feel a responsibility to do my job and to educate these kids.  He seems to think that being their friend is more important.

i've been using duolingo to learn polish, and "you have tasty juice" is a super creepy sentence. :speechless:

Since those are basically crowd sourced, you get some odd stuff. When I was using it for Dutch, I basically had a lesson about a girl running from a group of boys who then used her. Was pretty fucked.

Sorry LB. I had that done a LONG time ago when I was going to get braces and I remember the pain being pretty intense despite all the numbing agents.

Honestly the pain isn't terrible, but I'm feeling sick to my stomach, and my jaw is really stiff. I was told to get them out about... 13 years ago? Never really had the money, but hey, I have a job now, and my insurance covered half, so I wanted to get it done before my deductible resets Jan 1.

Last week I learned, for the first time, what it meant to "open a bar tab".  I wish I had learned this before I essentially spent $47 on one drink.

I'm not particularly religious, and I don't really like Muppets, but I do love word play.

DAMN! 47 bucks?! What the hell did you order? I hope it was the best, oldest scotch that they had.

Finished wrapping my wife's Xmas gifts tonight...got her 2 things that she asked for (which is what I wrapped tonight)...and 3 other gifts that I wrapped a couple of weeks ago...2 of the gifts I wrapped a couple of weeks ago are sort of joke gifts...and the 3rd....????....No idea. I can't for the life of me remember what it was.

Why does Target have 18 checkout register isles when the most I've ever seen open is 4 maybe 5?  And I've been going there since the store opened in the 90s.

Target?  Every single retail store in existence is like that.  It's not as many checkout lines, but it's still fewer than are ever open.

But I think the real answer is that they need the space to expand in case of very heavy traffic.  Check it out on Black Friday or Christmas Even.  I once saw all the lanes open the day before a big snowstorm was predicted.
