There is a local comedy theatre that runsa clases for people to learn improv, which is fine and all, it's a confidence booster and shit like that and those that sign up for the classes are people with tedious office jobs and no creative outlet mostly. But dear god the student shows, most of the participants seem to think comedy comes down to two things:
1: "Funny" voices
2: Shrieking.
The worst is when some of them turn up at the open competitions run by other venues for improv troops. Like this weekend it was the final of a week long competition for improv troops with the winners from the previous nights competing. Now some were good because they were made up of people with both talent and training while others were, well see the bullet list above. That those folks had made it to the final makes me thank Dionysus that rehearsals had kept me from attending the prelims.
