I think they are referring to the use of Scotch instead of just Scot.

Yes Scot is acceptable.

Kind of like how in the states Oriental is acceptable for objects but not people.

Scotch pancakes are fine, Scotch bloke is a wee bit inflammatory. :o

You know, it just occured to me that my doctor has never actually cured me of or treated me for anything sucsessfully. Everything either goes away or sticks around. Most of it, it turns out, was just a result of anxiety. Even just recently, when I went to him for an infected burn. He gave me some antibiotic pills that spent 4 days not doing squat, and then, one night, I decide to put a bandage over the wound with a little disenfectant, and next morning,

WARNINGWARNINGWARNING REALLY GROSS SENTINCE AHEAD

the bandage has absorbed a disturbing amount of puss, and half my infection's gone. I do the same thing last night, and now all I have is a small rim of redness around the burn.
The doctor gets paid a crap load to give me useless pills, and I accidentally heal myself with humoral medicine. Sigh.

Again, sorry for getting gross, but seriously.

Go take a salt water bath, that's what helped my knee heal nice and quick.

I'm not suggesting heavily concentrated saline. Pour 1/4-1/2 cup of kosher salt in the bath then run the water till the bath is full.

I've never had a wound like Junkyard describes get infected, and I'm at a loss for any explaination other than that he doesn't have enough meat in his diet.

Well simplistic as it sounds, that might actually have something to do with it. Depending on how high in simple carbohydrates Junkyard's diet is, which potentially can be higher in an all vegetarian diet. The higher the sugar content the easier it is to produce inflammation.

And it's not for lack of trying, either! I mean... I pick at my wounds like a 5 year old. I rub Sour Skittle powder into them just to see what happens and note dispassionately the various kinds of agony it produces. Though I will make carefully sure not to let chili powder into an open wound again...

Ah now Capsaicin probably does you good for all the pain it initially causes. In some ways the Calvinists were on to something. :)

Fascinating. And to think I was just harassing him....

Junkyard! Eat more jerky!

Although, my diet has large amounts of carbohydrates and sugars in it, too... I mostly live on meat, bread, dairy products and Mountain Dew.

I love bread too, though I used to love white bread (not wonder bread but like rustic loaves made with white bread flour) it simply doesn't cut it any more I need whole wheat and rye.

You can try rubbing raw meat into the wound. It'd be fun to see what happens then.  ;)

I've found that home remedies will do the trick at least 90% of the time for most illnesses/injuries. Having just got out of a job at a medical clinic, I can truthfully say that doctors are paid enormous amounts of money just to stick a thermometer in your mouth to tell you that you're sick. Which you already knew anyway. Too many people go on too many antibiotics for issues that, given enough time, will resolve themselves. Taking certain precautions will also prevent those dreaded secondary infections.
