MPAA and Big Brother hand-in-hand!
« on: October 07, 2007, 09:06:26 AM »
I wanted to watch the rated R trailer of "No Country For Old Men" on it's website, but you have to verify your age by giving your name, birthdate, and zipcode.  Then they compare it against a database of government I.D.'s.  Fuck that.  Here is a screengrab of what I mean:

Maybe some day businesses will learn that punishing legitimate customers by making them jump through stupid hoops only drives them to illegal, wide-open sources.

Oh, and did you REALLY need proof that the MPAA was evil? ;)

How exactly is it "evil"? It is just one of the many age verification methods out there. If anyone is to blame its the parents that get all lawsuit happy when their little bundle of joy accidentally sees a titty and they think that they need millions of dollars to help little Johnny recuperate.

Do you think that this is only for age verification?  It's for marketing purposes.  They want demographic information so they can sell ads to us.  This goes beyond what is necessary for age verification by law.  It's a tricky way to get us to think they want to check our age, when really they want raw data about the people who watch this trailer.

Is that really worth the watch?  I keep hearing about it but haven't gotten around to checking my store or adding it on my netflix que yet...

Yeah it's good.  A good back-to-back would be "This Film Is Not Yet Rated" and "The Corporation".

It's an official shareware version of the movie.  When the first part is over it automatically moves to the next part.
