Well you can't prevent that.  But making people think about what music is worth to them is an interesting exercise.

I know you can't avoid it but watching people that were "self-confessed Radiohead fans" saying they weren't going to pay anything for the album was a bit aggravating to see. I still think they had to give their credit card info even if they weren't going to pay for it.

So it's possible that their website intro text will change to 'Gotcha, you cheap bastards!' in a few weeks.

Well at any rate I hope they keep track of who pays and who doesn't and those that didn't pay get what they pay for.

What is the reasoning behind calling MP3s half assed?  Because they're not distributing it in a FLAC format that 99.5% of the population has no interest in listening to?  Or something I'm not thinking of?

No that's about it. If I am going to buy digital music I am not going to buy lossy mp3s as an archival form, just because lots of people are happy with mp3's doesn't mean I have to be.  I made that decision a long time ago. No I don't buy iTunes either.

Same here... I'll download albums illegally in mp3 to check them out, but if I'm paying and I have the choice I'm going to pay less than I would for the full  CD with cover art and lossless sound

Also, hasn't even Pearl Jam started selling their live shows in FLAC?  The Dead, Gov't Mule, Metallica, Dave Matthews Band, Phish, King Crimson, etc all sell stuff as FLAC through their websites....  Granted though this is a different situation where the album's coming out in what sounds like 5-6 months anyway, so all that's really needed is a couple dollar mp3 sample anyway...  Not the best model for the RIAA and etc to watch really...

I like the idea of the mp3 format (even if it isn't FLAC). I have been a big Radiohead fan for years and went to their MSG concert last year so I have no issue buying the downloads at $20. I think the new album won't be 4573895734895 dollars as people are thinking now, I am guessing at most $25. Smart move by them in my opinion.

Is the site still wiggy, or can you actually buy the .mp3's.  I was on a couple days ago and it kept freezing up on me.  I would pay a premium for more Radiohead.  After Thom Yorke's solo album, I'm pretty excited to see what is next.

Yorke's solo was very good, in my opinion. I liked Harrowdown Hill personally as well as And It Rained All Night.

Speaking of solo albums, did you ever hear Bodysong by Jonny Greenwood?

Bodysong is a badass soundtrack. The movie's pretty cool to watch as well, I own them both.

I thought the documentary was very good, its a shame it didn't catch attention in the American audience.

I don't think you'll regret it, I love it and I am sure other people that got it did as well.

Well, I ripped off the last two albums, and Yorke's solo one, so I owe them some money anyway.
