Backstroke of the West
« on: September 26, 2007, 03:09:10 PM »
This is by far the most entertaining thing about Episode III there is:

It's a more complete collection of the Chinese Bootleg DVD that the infamous "Do Not Want" mistranslation came from.  Very very funny stuff:

hehe....i took a look at the download pack, and its was unnecessarily complicated than it needed to be, but it did have the sup files ready to go.  I just made a quick mux of it, and its pretty funny.  and a big Plus is that it had the sup of the regular subtitles there too.  So that's one less thing.

...

I got a copy of Spiderman 3 from a friend who was living in China for awhile. Unfortunately there was no English audio at all. Instead, the entire DVD was in Chinese with really, really, really bad Engrish translations. It was hilarious for about ten or fifteen minutes.

The one thing that confused the hell out of me was that they constantly referred to The Horn. It took me awhile before i figured out that they were trying to translate The Daily Bugle. Apparently, the were thinking very literally... bugle = horn. Nice. Makes perfect sense, right?

Anyway, i held onto it just for the laughs. Thankfully it cost less than one American dollar. I ended up buying my buddy a beer... and the way i see it, he still owes me three bucks!

this is TOTALLY going in my re-author.  Watching rifftrax with these subs might be a convergence of hilarity that the world cannot handle.

Great find, david! Thanks a million!

Do you know what's in each of the four sup files? My authoring tool only allows three files.

I noticed that the first two are much larger than the last two, but when I authored with the first three the first one didn't appear to do anything and the second and third seemed to have the same engrish subtitles. I then re-authored with only the second one and it seemed to work, but am I missing something in the other three?

Download "Subtitle Creator", it's a great program and should let you view the sup files.

Thanks! I actually already had that program but forgot about it because I never actually used it.

So, it looks like (1) is the actual correct movie subtitles, (2) and (3) are the "Backstroke" subtitles (they look the same to me), and (4) is some weird character outline thingy. So, I'm guessing I can leave out (3) without any problem? Or, is there something that I am missing?

From reading the original topic, 3 is the backstroke subtitle with clean language.  So yeah, take it out.

I just watched it (with the riffing of course) and it was an absolute riot.

I loved how often it actually corrected Yoda's lines.
