I don't know why I'm not in love with Moonrise Kingdom like everyone else.  I really like the movies on either side of it (Mr Fox, and Grand Budapest).  If I were to rank them, I would say:

Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums, Grand Budapest Hotel, Fantastic Mr Fox, Life Aquatic, Bottle Rocket, Moonrise Kingdom, Darjeeling Limited.

Moonrise and Darjeeling are the only ones that I don't watch over and over.

Aquatic and Mr Fox are the only two I've watched all the way through, tried to watch Bottle Rocket, Rushmore and Royal Tenenbaums to various degrees of boredom/frustration/annoyance BUT interested to give Grand Budapest Hotel a look because apparently it's very different.

Yeah, if anything, Anderson has been doubling-down on his style with each new movie since Fox. Grand Budapest Hotel is so "Him" that's it's nearly parody.

Which would be a problem if these movies weren't also terrific, but luckily for all involved, they are.

Anderson has a certain aesthetic that he has nailed, that is unique to him, and that creates great movies. I can't imagine him ever deviating from the path he's on, and frankly, that's A-OK by me.

The only movie of his I've ever seen is Life Aquatic. I watched it because I think I had heard it was supposed to be his most "accessable" movie. There were some parts I like (particularly Bill Murray and William Dafoe), but overall I was just pretty meh on it. So I haven't tried any of his others. I think even more of that unique style would just get really annoying to me. It also doesn't help that he keeps hiring Owen Wilson, who I have never liked.

Watched Guardians of the Galaxy last night and while I don't think I was as over the moon for it as most (no pun intended), it was still tremendously fun and along with the last Captain America movie, a sign that the Marvel movies are going to remain great by making movies that both feel part of a whole but providing different genre feels for each movie (Cap was a 70's style political thriller while Guardians was a classic Star Wars/Last Starfighter feeling film.  Looking forward to next year's films (despite the unfortunate departure of Edgar Wright).

This should be standard operating procedure for all Michael Bay "films".

Brazil

Watched this with my Dad, who had never seen it before.  Still amazing and this time I figured something out that I completely blanked on before.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Anyway, this is easily the best of Terry Gilliam's films and despite the dark and cynical worldview, it is a beautiful and smart movie.
