Is Sharknadoi the nerdy version of that movie, where all the sharks have pocket protectors and dweeb glasses? Because I'd almost rather watch that.

We're the Millers

Jason Sudekis does his best late 70s Chevy Chase... kind of a cocky asshole... yet somehow still likable. Jennifer Aniston is also actually pretty good, shoehorned into the relatively thankless role of stripper with a heart of gold. The support cast is very good... and the laughs keep coming. Things might run a bit long... as I did get the slightest sense of drag towards the very end... But a solid comedy.

Planes
A few cute/funny moments here and there... but even my kids were bored by the one hour mark... just dull for the most part... lots and lots of footage of CGI plans flying... Disney's "The Starfighters" if you will.... Everything about it betrays the direct-to-DVD shelf filler it was originally intended to be.

Axe Giant: The Wrath of Paul Bunyan - Oh wow, this was BAAAAD! And not really in a "so bad is funny" kind of way, except in a few instances. Just bad, boring and tediously slow. The acting is downright 'middle school play' bad, from every single castmember (except Joe Esteves who is just doing a scenery chewing crank, and not even that good a one anyway). Paul Bunyan himself is done via a decent man-in-suit practical effect, but the compositing and greenscreen and the cinematography don't do the suit any favors. Every other effect is astonishingly bad CGI. More importantly, there are quite a lot of long stretches where the title character isn't onscreen, and all we are left with is actors who couldn't act their way out of a porn shoot. Due to this, the movie feels very long.
All in all, it's really bad, even by The Asylum standards. Unlike their recent Sharknado and Bigfoot movies which were at least fun and had a lot happening throughout, this is even worse than what you typically think of about SyFy Channel original movies. AVOID!

Today, I had a twofer, both of which I'd seen before, but really enjoyed. Roman Holiday, starring the ever radiant Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. Sometimes, I feel like I was born in the wrong decade. The style of the 50's is absolutely amazing. I love Audrey in every sense of the word, too. She is the absolute perfect person. 15/10, would totally marry. Gregory Peck is also fantastic, and handsome as hell. I genuinely feel that actors and actresses were better looking in those days, if not more talented. Fantastic movie.

The second was Buster Keaton's Sherlock Jr.. HILARIOUS movie, and easily my favorite Keaton movie I've seen. Before anyone suggests The General, I've seen it, and thought it was rather meh. Silent films are interesting, because they had to do more showing than telling to drive the plot forward, and I think that's something most movies today fail at. I don't watch a movie because I want someone to read me a bunch of exposition; show me that junk!

The Man Who Knew Too Little

This is a movie that is completely saved by Bill Murray.  I understand why it got panned, but I still like kind of it, despite it's weaknesses.  The biggest weaknesses are in the script and the editing.  The people involved clearly wanted to make a Blake Edwards-type face, but I wish it was a little less broad.  I think if the other characters were a bit more serious (or at least less broad), it would work better with Murray's great performance.  Like, if they took the plot a little more seriously, than dropping a doofus like the one Murray plays and has him acting confident enough for all of these really dangerous and clever people to take him seriously, then it would work better.  I think the opening sequence is emblematic of the problems with the movie: there's an animated credits sequence over a live action sequence, which would be good if they complemented each other, but they don't fit together at all.  So while I enjoy Murray, I just wish this could live up to it's potential, because I think that this isn't far from being a much better film.

I have recently discovered that I really enjoy Jason Sudekis. Someone earlier mentioned how he does a good Chevy Chase, playing a swarmy smug guy, and I completely agree...and I LOVE it!

I am basing this on:

We're The Millers: Which was funnier than expected, and not that predictable.
Horrible Bosses: The ending was a little Dues Ex MAchina, but it was hilarious from start to finish.
Guest Spots on It's Always Sunny:

I am looking forward to more. Hope they are as awesome!
