The Wrong Guy

Downloaded this for a British friend.  The fact that David Foley never became the big star he was supposed to be is a real crime.  I mean, I love all of the Kids in the Hall (I hear that Scott Thompson has a role in the Hannibal TV series) and feel they all deserve to be in more things, but Dave was going to be a leading man and outside of A Bug's Life, it never happened.  If you haven't seen this movie, it is very funny.  I think a lot of people might oversell it due to the fact that it is obscure (although has been getting more attention lately) but that's because it is a really fun film.  I won't tell you the premise, but it is a very funny twist on Hitchcock's "wrong man" movies.

Before Midnight. It was wonderful. I don't want to say much to spoil it, but if you like the previous two films, then you'll like this one as well.

Troma have uploaded most of their films onto Youtube for free.  It's like they want me to ruin my life watching their films!

Neat.  I might have to watch a few.  Maybe.

I used to loooove Troma. For the most part I am over it, but I might revisit a few faves... (Surf Nazis Must Die up there?)

Will check it out after work.
FINE

Despicable Me 2 - Still a light kiddie movie like the first one. But very enjoyable for what it is. The minions are still great, and with the successful larger role they have here makes me hopeful for their solo movie next year. We didn't need the tacked on love interest aspect of it, though. And Lucy Wilde (the Kristen Wiig character) was annoying at times. Also it suffered from the lack of the awesome Vector villain from the first one. But still, it had laughs.
And his bakery he runs at one point is called Bake My Day. Now that is just fucking hilarious!

If they do another one (aside from the minion movie), I would like to see a prequel. Before all the little girls, before the love interest. Just Gru at the height of his villainy.
Either that, or I would like to see the middle girl Edith growing up to become a spy or villain herself. She seemed the most interesting of the three, yet she is the one with the least given for her to do. She's apparently training to be a goddamn ninja or something, and yet we're concentrating on the oldest sister's first love?! Fuck you movie, I wanted to see a little girl in a pink hat with nunchucks kicking ass!

The Lone Ranger. It was better than Man of Steel. There was joy, humor, and a lot more fun to watch. I recommend it.
I survived the San Diego Comic Con 2010 Hall H stabbing.

I think you're the first one I've heard say anything positive about this movie. But...hey wait a minute...based on your name...YOU'RE the Lone Ranger?!

Revisited Monsters Inc. (in 3D) for the first time since VHS was still a thing. There's still a few I need to see/revisit, but this is now my favorite Pixar movie. I forgot how funny it actually is. The 3D was pretty neat too, especially the effect on the open doors.

Since I missed out on getting Journey To The Center Of The Earth on Blu-Ray (the good one, from 1959), I used the Vudu DVD to streaming thingy to get the HDX version for only a few bucks.  Compared a few scenes to my DVD and the HDX version certainly has more detail.

As for the movie, love most of it, the beginning is painfully slow, but once they leave Scotland it picks up nicely.

I need to watch that again. I probably haven't seen it in ten years.

Just watched Sleepwalk With Me. I liked it. Standup is pretty interesting, and this seems to capture what it would be like to do it.

Back to Scream 2 for a sec.

Back in the early days of the intrawebz, I hung out at a number of script sites. Not computer scripts but sites where folks would upload text versions of film scripts. One of the scripts that got uploaded prior to the release of the film was Scream 2 and when I got to the theater to see it, it turns out that the draft of the script that I read wasn't the one that got filmed as it had a different killer.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So, yes, the ending could have been even worse than it was.

Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World

Cute little film.  Kinda implausible ending but it was OK.

Goodfellas. It was my first time watching it. I don't know what took me so long. Excellent film.

Man of Steel. It's not a perfect movie, and a bot choppy in some of the pacing, but it's still one of the best Superman movies I've seen.
