I didn't dislike Hunger Games... But it was one of those things were I kept thinking that the movie had promise and was going to get better... and it never really did. I still haven't picked up the rifftrax yet, but I probably will at some point if I can buy the movie itself for under $10.
Madagascar 3
Very much a crowd pleaser if you liked either of the first two installments. A lot of fun new characters are introduced all featuring funny voice work, the laughs come from a combination of clever dialog and physical gags. The plot is paced very well, never feeling forced to sticking in one place to milk jokes. The villain might be a bit too over the top... but that's a nitpick.. Just a really well made cartoon that left a big stupid grin on my face for pretty much the entire 90 minutes.
The Avengers
My second viewing, this time on DVD. Sure, the plot is as basic boilerplate comic book as you can get... You know none of the Avengers are going to die, so they shoehorn in the death of Agent Whatshisface for some forced gravitas... The motivations of the villain are kinda questionable... Like Lux Luthor thinking he can bargain with General Zod... But none of that matters... The action is fun, the cast delivers the one-liners and the whole thing just has the right vibe... Knowing that he shouldn't risk taking this ridiculous shit too seriously, Whedon just kicks back, has a good time and takes us along for the ride.
