Robin is good, I think he was at his career peak in this, it was before the slide downhill.

One Hour Photo, Insomnia, Death to Smoochy, and World's Greatest Dad object.

...admittedly, they don't object as loudly as they should, but they object all the same.
I think World's Greatest Dad objects just fine (and in one of these odd music related coincidences that occur far too often for me, Pandora was just playing Mandolin Rain as I started typing this).
Also, he was great in the first episode of the second season of Wilfred, though he only had a few scenes.

The Avengers.   Liked it, the most fun since the 2 Iron Man ones.  Although I haven't seen the latest Hulk.

The new Hulk is probably the least necessary of the movies to lead up to Avengers, but I still enjoyed it. See if it you get the time.

I agree in that absolutely none of the side characters show up in, or are even referenced in, Avengers. But I did think it was an incredibly fun (eh, eh? See what I did there?)movie. I would really hope they continue it when they do another Hulk movie. Especially bring back Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader.

I wouldn't mind seeing a new Hulk as well, though I do agree, its connection to the Avengers is the most tenuous.

Speaking about Robin Williams, I do feel that Insomnia is a bit underrated.  I actually like Christopher Nolan's work, but Inception was not one of them.  It's exciting and all, but the premise just didn't work for me in terms of the dream layer stuff.  Silliness of time slowing down aside, my biggest problem was that, as much as I liked the application of practical effects over digital as much as possible, the dreamworld is the single-most boring dreamworld I've ever seen.  And that's sort of why I like Insomnia...it has a much more dreamlike quality, and there's nothing really weird or fantasy-based in the whole movie.  That, and when Robin Williams wants to play creepy, he does it very well.

Let's face it...I think when we really think of Robin Williams these days, people think of his wild, drug-snorting days of unbridled hilarity, and Patch Adams.  Probably Jack, too.  Those are bad films, I would agree, but they're really two massive specks on a career that includes quite a few decent ones, then AND now.  But then, a lot of those films are also for specific audiences, too, like One Hour Photo or Fisher King, films without mass appeal, so the poor guy never really seems to win.

And I'll go on a limb...Death to Smoochy, I thought, wasn't the Ishtar everybody says it was.  I did laugh at "I never saw Pariiiiiiiiis..."

Speaking of Jumanji, I think Zathura is a better movie, but Jumanji has Bonnie Hunt so hard to pick a winner.

Tonight, I watched Man Bites Dog, which was exactly what I expected it to be. It's hilarious, but I'd recommend not seeing it if you're not into Durang-esque humor. It's sick, twisted, and wonderful.

Insomnia is definitely Nolan's most underrated film, in that many people seem to even forget it exists. Probably because it's so conventional compared to all his other non-Batman movies (in terms of how it presents itself). It's also Al Pacino's last really good role, so it's to be cherished. Meanwhile, all this Inception slamming is making me ;_;

And not only is Death to Smoochy an awesome comedy (my friend had William's "Going on safari" bit as his answering machine for a while)... but Ishtar isn't even the Ishtar everyone says it was. That one's actually pretty funny for those who take the time to actually watch it.

Inception.

Visually kind of neat I guess, but completely (to me) unengaging and way too long.

I agree with  you on all counts. I really disliked Inception and it influenced my feelings about the latest Batman movie. I thought the latter was too much like the former to be really enjoyable.

APGIL and I went to see Looper last night and I loved it. Great story and acting, and even Emily Blount's bad wig didn't ruin my enjoyment of it. She also did a great job with an American accent. JGL's eyes were freaking me out, though -- they gave him contacts so his eye color matched Bruce Willis' eye color, and I kept thinking they should have given Bruce Willis brown contacts instead. And I do agree that the movie dragged a little toward the middle, although I wouldn't call it a whole third of the movie -- more like fifteen minutes or so.

Good movie, lot of fun -- go see it. :)

Death to Smoochy was a very funny movie, and I'll agree that Robin Williams has done a lot of great work. I even like Toys and Hook (although I do cringe every scene that tries to make the lost boys "hip" for marketing purposes, but it's worth it just for all the Peter, Hook and Smee action)

Man Bites Dog is pretty great.  A good companion piece to that film is Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon.

Behind the Mask is a bit more overtly humorous in tone (in the sense that it's more "fun". Man Bites Dog is humor that's dark as coal), but yeah, that'd be a good double feature right there.

Sometimes I call movies shows.  It might be a regional thing.  Might be an insanity thing.

The Adventures of Tintin

In my opinion, better than any of the Indiana Jones movies.

Mmmm.... Not more than Raiders, but I think after that it narrowly edges out Last Crusade.  It is an AMAZING movie.  Steven Speilberg needs to direct more animated movies.  The one-shot chase through the acropolis towards to end is fantastic.
