I do find Alice to be his worst, however. Overall, though, I think his recent run gets a bad reputation, mostly due to Alice being awful and Dark Shadows being a massive disappointment. Clouds the judgement, since as I recall everyone seemed to enjoy Sweeney Todd.

Yeah, I never understood the love for Sweeney Todd. Excruciating, I thought.

Big Fish though, is probably second only to Unbreakable as my least favourite film. I know I am in the minority though.
FINE

If I may press the issue further, can I ask why? Big Fish just seems like one of those movies that's crazy enjoyable to me (albeit also one that reduces me to a small bucket of tears by the end).

I will back you up on Unbreakable, though. There's a movie I have a strong distaste for, as well as general bafflement as to why it's so enjoyed (of course, that could very well be your same set of feelings for Big Fish, so I guess I can understand you fine there).

Have you ever seen Mister Magorium's Wonder Emporium? To me, they are almost the same movie - Trying so hard to be whimsical, but feeling very empty and grating.

I like Big Fish, Unbreakable, and Sweeny Todd.

Planet of the Apes was total crap, Alice was kinda sorta worth watching once and never again, Charlie is okay.

I think Big Fish is his second or third best ever

I hate this movie with a passion.  I'm already a bit exhausted with how often flashbacks are used in films these days.  I know it is often an effective storytelling device but whatever happened to good old linear storytelling once in a while?  Needless to say, I don't have much patience for movies that have flashbacks within flashbacks.  This movie goes even beyond that, however.  THere was one scene in BIg FIsh that had a flashback within a flashback within ANOTHER FLASHBACK!!!!!!!  AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH......................sorry.........I get insane just thinking about it.
I've had a difficult time forgiving Tim Burton since.

I remember really liking Big Fish when it came out, but I haven't seen it since then and really can't remember a thing about it.  I guess Sweeny Todd is good, but Burton's work has been awfully patchy.

Just watched this for the first time the other night, quite enjoyed it. First half was probably the most awkward movie I've ever sat through (especially the phone sex scene. Oiy, so much squirming in the seat), and the second half had some of the most uplifting and cheerworthy. I pretty much can't stop watching that fight. Another sign of that strange amount of talent bubbling under the surface of Adam Sandler, despite his constant dedicated efforts to repress it.

Also, PTA's apparently said that this is his version of a superhero film (starring a developing Superman). Crazy stuff.

Never seen Punch Drunk Love. Is that the one with the teaser trailer was just the voice-over guy trying to do his typical "In a world" type stuff, and they keep interrupting him, and then fire him during the trailer?

Watch this at least once a year and I like it more every time.

Don't know, but if it is, it's giving you a very wrong idea of the film. Really worth watching, and also, the less you know about it, the better. It's quite odd and surprising.

I love Big Fish and Unbreakable, but Beetlejuice is total garbage.
