"The Words" - A hot, pretentious mess.

The whole question the movies asks and never answers is
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Which wouldn't be a problems except the movie makes a mess of everything.  The framing devices for the story within a story within a story is sloppy.  The acting is poor from top to bottom (the only things Zoe Saladana are given to do is kiss Cooper or cry).  And, ironically, for a movie called "The Words" and writing is terrible.

I found the whole thing hilarious.

Never seen it. Don't intend to.

The older I get, the more I realize that the only (new) movies I'm really willing to sit through are comedies.

I feel that way now with a bunch of new movies even though I'm young. Comedies and action movies are the two genres that I'm rarely interested in when it comes to new movies (I'm more interested in the action flicks though if they're actually good.) With most new movies, I just say "What's the point?"

Yeah, but there's rarely anything more depressing onscreen than a cripplingly unfunny comedy.

Very true, but every years manages to deliver at least a handful of comedies that are more than worth the time it takes to watch them. Some of them even more than once (this year, for instance, 21 Jump Street and Goon spring to mind).

That said, Coragale, you're going to want to listen to base here. Friends don't let friends fall under the delusion that Sucker Punch is a good movie ;)

I didn't see Sucker Punch because I knew it would be bad. I have heard that 21 Jump Street is funny (which surprises me to be honest) so I'll have to check it out. Goon was good.

Knee jerk counterpoint: http://cameronbcook.blogspot.nl/2011/08/movie-review-sucker-punch-or-as-long-as.html

And I should let it be known that I was one of the ones who was really pulling for that movie. I went in to that midnight screening ready to be impressed by anything, and totally set to defend it to everyone (as I still do for the Watchmen movie). But, it just couldn't be done.

Yeah, I also tried to enjoy it for mindless entertainment. I am able to do that for portions of it. But not the whole.

... 500 Days of Summer is a comedy.

I didn't love it, but I did think it had a bunch of interesting stuff in it. (Particularly liked the split-screen section)

It is? Doesn't it have Adam Sandler in it?  Or what am I thinking of?

50 First Dates maybe? It's the only close one I can think of in terms of titles.

Because it's not intended to be mindless entertainment for the whole movie. I liked Sucker Punch and felt like it fell into the same trap that the first Hulk movie did. Too smart for those who just wanted mindless action, and too flashy and fun to be thought of as smart...

The Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag

Wow, that was a lot of not good.  The humour was abysmal (and, at times, cringe-worthy), the characters really unlikable and while the idea of a mousy girl deciding to pretend to be a criminal has potential, no one here has the ability to pull it off.  An ordeal to sit through.

I last watched Eraserhead. I'm not sure what to think of it. Part of me thinks it's brilliant, the other part thinks it's confusing garbage.

Oh yeah.

500 Days of Summer is pretty good, but I don't think you'd like it, Im.  It's achingly "hip."

So, a David Lynch film then?
