VHS.

Really fun horror anthology with an 80's feel, less winky than Trick 'r Treat but if you liked that you'll like this I think.
I have heard good things about that one. I will definitely check it out when it's on DVD.

I get it!

Been waiting for this one. The world needs more good horror anthologies (that said, if that was intended as a crack against my beloved Trick 'r Treat...).

Dirty Dancing Havana Nights

Meh.  But, God...I miss Patick Swayze.  And John Slattery is hot.

The Vicious Kind
Wow.  Adam Scott plays a big time jerk.  I wasn't expecting to hate him.  The movie is interesting, but there are no likable characters.  This doesn't always bother me in a movie, but it did this time.

Legion of the Dead. Thanks for letting me know about this one, SJP! Sooooo entertainingly bad.

This movie steadfastly refuses to explain character backgrounds and basic information.

Even though it is 20 years since Gremlins, Zach Galligan doesn't look any different. So it is hilarious the bad grey they put in his hair slightly and the silly foux beard he tries to sport here to make him seem older and like a repectable professor to these college age kids.

There is a female character named Kevin for no reason. They don't do anything with it, other than she says "Yeah, i've heard all the jokes." Um...that still doesn't explain anything!

I will give this movie credit for at least using some practical effects. Even if they are pretty bad. But the CGI is soooo much worse. Especially the goofy glowy effect they have for the mummy when she first wakes up.

Kudos for having plenty of good nudity, though.

"WHERE IS MY MUMMY?!" line had me rolling.

"She is speaking a language that hasn't been spoken for thousands of years." YOU JUST SPOKE IT! And it doesn't explain why you tried a thousand year old dead language on a woman you just met along with other modern foreign languages to figure out what she spoke.

There are TWO DEATHS on a simple archeological dig and that isn't enough to shut them down?

I love how so many of the people are able to easily escape the mummy when she tries to steal their soul the first time. It's always the second time that's the charm.

When the girl is resurrecting her boyfrined at the end, I was really rooting for him to come back as an evil mummy or something. But no.

We spend this entire movie in one of two locations. Either a 10' X 10' "Egyptian" burial chamber painted to like an American flag, or a cheap motel. Yep, this is an Asylum movie!

I've seen it before, but 500 Days of Summer. This movie is AWESOME, and not just because the current holder of Most Beautiful Woman on Earth is in it. I love everything about it. Really, I'm serious. Casting is great, screenplay's amazing, the style works. After a rewatch, I think it's earned a place on my Shelf of Awesome. For the curious, the Shelf so far is below.

I loved 500 Days of Summer, but none of my other friends did.  Seriously, I recommended it to them.  And NO ONE liked it.  I couldn't believe it.

Never seen it. Don't intend to.

The older I get, the more I realize that the only (new) movies I'm really willing to sit through are comedies.

... 500 Days of Summer is a comedy.

I didn't love it, but I did think it had a bunch of interesting stuff in it. (Particularly liked the split-screen section)

Infection (2004) - Overall I liked it. It's a japanese horror movie about doctors and nurses in a hospital after hours that have to deal with a strange infection that is literally melting people and the consequences and guilt of their own dubious actions.
What works best here is the atmosphere. Thick with dread and style. The only thing thicker is the goop, which is all over the place. While it is not the fun kind of gore-a-thon of Dead Alive or the good parts of Street Trash, there is more than enough great practical effects to go around.
The performances are pretty good here (that I could tell since it was in Japanese and had English subtitles). Particularly an entertainingly creepy old lady who may or may not be able to see ghosts.
On the bad side, this movie kind of shit the bed at the end with a bunch of nonsensical crap about whether it was real or not. If it's all in the main character's head or whatnot. I hate that kind of bullshit in horror movies! But really, it mostly comes up at the end, and for the first 4/5ths of the movie you can take it at face value (or at least any questions wouldn't completely negate EVERYTHING we are seeing). Which makes it a nice scary cool gooey ride.
