I just watched Reservoir dogs last night... I like it but it's probably a little too dark at the end. I really would like to see Stanley Kubrick's "The Killing", which as I understand it, was the basis for Reservoir dogs.

In unrelated news, whenever somebody references "Scott Pilgrim vs the World" I don't hear the words "Scott Pilgrim vs the World", I hear "Schlocky, gimmicky bullshit"

The only thing I am missing out on is profound bouts of dry heaving into a trash can.

Ice Age 4

It started with a cute little Simpsons short that I had no idea was coming... so that was a nice surprise. The main movie was a bit dull compared to the earlier films, and I enjoyed the first two movies in the series quite a bit... The teenage daughter / protective daddy issues presented here are just a big waste of time... and the primary villain is a bit dull. But the animation is beautiful and there are some gems in the supporting voice cast including Nick Frost and Wanda Sykes.... And as always, that damn squirrel never gets his acorn... But they continue to find fun, unique ways to spin classic cartoony slapstick to keep him going. Worth a rental for the kids.

I really enjoyed the first one too (I hated the sencond, particularly because of Latifah's character). I just wish they would just make a Scrat movie. Since it is basically Looney Tunes, which tends to work best in shorts, make it an anthology movie or something.

Drunken Angel. I liked the movie enough, but of the Akira Kurosawa movies I've seen so far, they seem pretty slow.

All The Right Moves - early Tom Cruise movie about a high school football team and a dying town in Pennsylvania.   Tom Cruise plays a high school football player who desperately wants to get out his small town and get an a degree in engineering.  I was expecting 80's cheese but instead it's a good solid film, with a standout performance from Lea Thompson and solid work from Tom Cruise and Craig T.  Nelson.   My only quibble with the movie is that ending wrapped things up a little too neatly.

Cruise shows off his junk in that movie.  So does Lea Thompson.

Agreed.  Good movie but then that ending feels really off.  It's not that Nelson's character has a change of heart, it's the way the movie gives us a moment that should have felt earned and somehow feels like a Deus Ex Machina.  That's not to say that it comes out of nowhere, but it's how abruptly everything is completely OK the end.  It's like the director had only the last 3 minutes of the movie taken away from him.  HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN?

Serenity. Been a while since I watched this one. Have the DVD, but found the blu-ray for less than $8 at Wal-Mart and couldn't resist the upgrade. It's always nice when you know a movie, but are still surprised by the little details that you forgot. Not to mention that on blu-ray, the details are so much more . . . detailed. Eventually I'll get around to watching all the PIP commentary and other goodies, too.

I rewatched Captain America today. GOD I love that movie.

Captain America is an awesome hero. He doesn't have crazy super powers. He is the absolute PEAK of human capability, which is awesome. Steve Rogers is an awesome character. He doesn't have a hidden agenda, or honor, or anything special motivating him. He's just a genuinely good guy. Tony Stark's all, 'I've got to surpass my father, I was imprisoned, I need to protect America.' Spiderman has guilt and a shitty life to thank for his motivation. Steve Rogers says, "I don't like bullies."

Captain America is an AMAZING movie. Really, I can't count any of the recent Marvel Studios movies as their own thing, because they're not. They're a mini-series, and they're AMAZING.
