Ted.  Awful.  Just utterly awful.  I laughed maybe three times during the whole thing and almost no one else in the theater did either.  If it wasn't so hot outside, I would've walked out of the theater.  A horny, foul-mouthed teddy bear is an all right schtick for maybe five minutes, but stretched out to two hours it became unbearable.  Worse, the film was painfully predictable.  I could see nearly every joke and plot point coming from a mile away.

One other small point: sure, people might not give a shit about Ted after a while like Patrick Stewart said in the opening narration, but his existence proves that magic is real!  Wouldn't that fundamentally change the nature of the world?  Yet nothing comes of it.  What if a boy wishes for the end of the world?  Would that happen?  All right, it's a comedy and not a documentary, but still it seems odd that everybody just cruises along like nothing happened.

And Roger Ebert gave this shit three and a half stars?  I don't want to say he's out of his mind, but come on!  Then again, he gave the first Die Hard two stars and Speed 2: Cruise Control three stars, so he's as fallible as any other critic.

I respectfully disagree.  I laughed my ass off during this.  And can't wait to see it again.

We watched a great movie last night on Netflix -- Dragons Forever starring Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao. I love the movies those three have done together, they all have great comedy skills and their prowess in martial arts goes without saying.

The story in Dragons Forever is silly and predictable but the real point of the movie is to see these three guys mix it up, with each other and with guest stars. The guy who played the main villain is straight out of a Marx Brothers movie. Also at one point Jackie was having a conversation with the female lead and a song was playing over it, but instead of capturing their dialog in the subtitles the lyrics of the song were being shown. We lost it when a line of the song was translated as "Love is a conveyor belt of warmth". Who can argue with that!

Really great and fun movie. If you like martial arts and comedy, check it out. (Movies like this are why Kung Fu Hustle fell far short in my opinion.)

Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung were unassailable in the 80s.  They just put out great work time and time again.  I think Yuen Biao is less successful, but he's an amazing athlete.  Prodigal Son, directed by Sammo and starring Yuen Biao is a great showcase for him.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ted when I saw it, as did everyone in the theater. Maybe you shouldn't go during film snobs anonymous meetings. :P

Apparently I the last movie I saw came out last year and is also nonexistent.

I liked it more than any of the other three, for pretty much all the same reasons everyone has already said. I'm just hoping they got all the emotional crap out of the way and can make a kick-ass sequel.

To tell you the truth, I don't really remember because I wasn't keeping track during the movie. Yes, he cried over family deaths and stuff. But during one of the last times he cried in the movie (because a character died) my daughter leaned over to me and whispered, "Oh my god, was that the last person who could change your diapers?" So we didn't really keep track of all of the cry scenes until a certain point when we were both thought it was too much.

APGIL didn't say anything about the crying scenes but he has a higher tolerance for that sort of thing than Amy and I do. So maybe it was just us.

Daughter, eh?

Nope, none whatsoever.  (Actually, it's more that there aren't bounds to my inability to pass up the first joke that pops into my head)

As I like to say... if there's grass on the field, they're far too old for me.

We're getting off-topic again.

I recently watched the Tim And Eric Billion Dollar Movie.  It was okay, I guess.  Sure made a hell of a lot more sense than their TV show, considering there was a single plot and story.  It was more of a standard movie than a movie of their sketch show....  Personally, I like the show more.

I assume there's an internet board somewhere which lists all the films that "Film snobs" should go to and NOT laugh at, so they know which ones to choose?

Actually there is:

The rules aren't explicit about this kind of thing, but it seems like this could get you banned. Sorry to ruin the joke (although I think everybody has heard of this one), but I thought I should mention it.
