I thought Segel said that though he wouldn't be involved in writing the next Muppet movie, he'd like to still be in it.

Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol

Loved it, or course, Simon Pegg helped a lot.  I personally think it's the best one of the series

Good script and actors and lots of cool gadgets, hope they do another one

Men In Black 3 - Eh, it was okay. About as many jokes work as ones that don't. Some of the designs (the practical ones) looked good. Not as good as the first one, but far better than the sequel.
My new weekly event is going to see matinees (cheaper tickets and no one else in the theater, how can yo go wrong?), so I'm going to this in a little bit. I'm not expecting too much, but I am one of the two people that enjoyed the second one.

Next week I'll probably see Piranhas 3DD, and Prometheus the week after that.

Yeah, I almost exclusively go to matinees, too.

Well with my work schedule the only nights I have free are Sunday and Monday, and I don't think movies play late on Sundays. So I just had to get over the whole "going to the movies alone" thing so I can actually go see movies I'd like to see in theaters.

We Need To Talk About Kevin.

Interesting editing. But never have I seen a better titled film.  So very little dialogue or explanation.

Maybe that was the point.

Prometheus - Awesome.  I won't go into plot spoilers at all, but I will say it delivers a story in the Aliens-universe that's in keeping with the sinister, creepy tone of the best of the series.  The cast are excellent, especially Noomi Rapace (who goes through hell in the film) and Michael Fassbender, who is now the best android in the entire Aliens franchise.  The film is gorgeous too, with an eye for sweeping vistas that makes Peter Jackson look like an amateur.  There are a few story things I'm a little puzzled over, and I don't think half the cast are as well developed as they could be, but it's definitely a worthy follow-up to the Alien and Aliens films that we've all been waiting for.

When I first saw the original Alien, that nasty android scene with the rolled up magazine scared me more than the facehugger or the chest burster!

Definately the least fun 'Home Alone' movie so far though

Grave of the Vampire

Another of those 50 for $10 deals.  These sets have been totally worth the money, hours of entertainment.

This one stars Michael Pataki as a vampire who rapes a young woman in a cemetery and kills her young lover.  The young woman becomes pregnant from the rape, has the babe, and lovingly raises him.  The vamp/human hybried makes it his life's mission to hunt down and kill his father.  Shades of "Blade" here.

Meanwhile, some other stuff happens.  People die, we find out about the past history of the vamp, etc

Oh, and the dude from "Rich Man, Poor Man" plays the grown up vamp/human.  Can't remember his name, but I've seen him in a ton of stuff.

Went to see Snow White and the Huntsman today.  I ended up walking out five minutes into it and getting a refund.  One reason was because there was a couple behind me chatting even while the film was starting.  If you want to talk during the trailers, fine.  But when the movie starts, please be quiet.  I asked them politely to please be quiet and they gave me a look but were quiet for the most part, though they still continued talking in snatches.  The worst thing was that they weren't kids.  They had to be fifty/sixty/seventy years old.  And I have to tell them to be quiet  >:(  Can't everybody just be quiet during a movie?!  I guess not.  Courtesy's gone the way of the dodo.

But the biggest reason wasn't the couple, though they had a lot to do with it.  The big reason was that the movie was dull as all hell.  I just knew I wasn't going to like it when the movie starts with a boring battle against black glass knights where the good guys win instantly.  Charlize Theron didn't help either--and I like her as an actress.  But here she seemed way too stiff.  By the time the wedding showed up, my fanny was twitching and I decided the hell with it.  I got up and got my money back, telling the girl at the counter that the movie was too artsy-fartsy for me and it wasn't my cup of tea.  She was nice about it and gave me the money back right away.

I think I'll save my money for Prometheus next week or the week after and see if I can go during a weekday showing--but I'll probably still get talkers and/or morons looking at their bright cell phones constantly while the movie is playing.  Sigh.

Well, at least that way it's muffled.

I thought it was you I had this conversation with before  :highfive:

As for the third one, I liked it. Thought it was on par with the others (or the first if you're anyone else).

More Movie-Mania!

Phantasm III - For those unfamiliar with the Phantasm series, it's the one with the floating metal ball that impales people in the face and a old dude stealing dead bodies for some mysterious use on another plane of existence.  This one's not very good and makes little sense - it counts on explaining things in its sequel, which is kinda shameful unless one is imminent.

Phantasm IV - Which came 4 years later.  It looks like this one was made with absolutely no budget, but is actually much better than the third, and possibly even better than the first.  The fact that the film is comprised of the cast that appeared in the first one, which was made almost 20 years prior, lends an odd poignancy to the film, especially when the director uses footage from the first 2 as the main character laments over the loss of his idyllic childhood.  It still doesn't explain much and again leaves everything open for a sequel (which hasn't arrived, and probably won't now, after 14 years) which smacks of the director not knowing what's going on in his own series.

Leprechaun in the Hood - Oh dear.  Possibly the least funny of the Leprechaun series, this one is explained in its title.  Ice-T plays a low level criminal who traps the Leprechaun, becomes super-rich only for Leprechaun to be released 20 years later and try to take his gold back.  There's also some stuff about some kids who want to become rap stars, but as a whole, they're both uninteresting and unlikeable.  Warwick Davis tries, but it's not enough.
