I don't know why I'm not in love with Moonrise Kingdom like everyone else. I really like the movies on either side of it (Mr Fox, and Grand Budapest). If I were to rank them, I would say:
Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums, Grand Budapest Hotel, Fantastic Mr Fox, Life Aquatic, Bottle Rocket, Moonrise Kingdom, Darjeeling Limited.
Moonrise and Darjeeling are the only ones that I don't watch over and over.
Aquatic and Mr Fox are the only two I've watched all the way through, tried to watch Bottle Rocket, Rushmore and Royal Tenenbaums to various degrees of boredom/frustration/annoyance BUT interested to give Grand Budapest Hotel a look because apparently it's very different.
Nope!
Yeah, if anything, Anderson has been doubling-down on his style with each new movie since Fox. Grand Budapest Hotel is so "Him" that's it's nearly parody.
Which would be a problem if these movies weren't also terrific, but luckily for all involved, they are.
Anderson has a certain aesthetic that he has nailed, that is unique to him, and that creates great movies. I can't imagine him ever deviating from the path he's on, and frankly, that's A-OK by me.
