What was the last movie you watched?

Well, that was Frank Capra... he was a genius. And, you are right, of course...

What may be interesting to our European friends, is that around this time of year there were two movies that were played over and over again, "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Miracle on 34th Street" it got to be that we, as Americans got sick of them...

But, that did NOT diminish the quality of the films, naturally. Now, on the cable channels, around xmas, we get "Saw" movies

Muppet Christmas Carol: Makes me cry every year.

Now if they'd release a version with "Love Is Gone" cut back into it, then it can make THE WORLD cry every year.

I went many years avoiding it, convinced at the time that I wouldn't like any Muppets movies made after Jim Henson had passed.  I was very surprised when I actually did watch it...I guess I shouldn't have been.  It is Micheal Caine as Scrooge.  Can't sneeze at that.

I'm not a huge fan of "Love is Gone"--it goes on WAY too long, but somehow the pacing is *even worse* without it.

At least it's still in the fullscreen version! People totally watch those anymore, right?

Anyway. Muppet Christmas Carol is both my favorite version of A Christmas Carol and my favorite post-Jim Muppet Movie. It's not flawless--come on, Paul Williams, you wrote "Moving Right Along" for pete's sake. You can do a better rhyme than "The winner would be him."--but everything that's good is FANTASTIC.

And I'll have to look at which version I have (pretty sure it's not the fullscreen), because I know "When Love Is Gone is in it. Because I fast forward through it EVERY time. It's just an absolute dead weight and stop the movie's momentum dead.

I still have a soft spot for Mickey's Christmas Carol, it's the first version I can remember.  Watched it again last week.  I'm always surprised at how short it is.

Well, I'm in the midst of my Christmas movie binge. Finished watching Scrooged, and I'm in the midst of Hogfather, with Reindeer Games and The Star Wars Holiday Special en route.


Yes, I'm rewatching Reindeer Games. Willingly. I have a soft spot for its goofiness.

Hogfather is great, even if Ian Richardson isn't my favorite choice for Death (Lee is better) and their choice of how to play Teatime.  I don't get the Michael Jackson thing.  But it's like 90% great.

I never made the connection to Jackson, still don't see it.  But after reading the book I do sort of agree his part could have been better.

Michelle Dockery kills as Susan, just love her attitude, so a score of 98% great from me...

You're hearing something I'm not, while I agree the voice is way too "childlike" I don't hear the connection to Jackson.

Just got back from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Really enjoyed it*! It's, aesthetically, one of the prettiest movies I've seen in a long time. Gorgeous cinematography, costumes, colors, sets, etc. A bit Wes Anderson-y to be honest. The story really resonated with me...probably because I am a risk-averse, daydreaming introvert named Walter.

*So yeah...parts of this were like being repeatedly punched in the gut.
