Also, far too many people were surprised by the "twist ending"

Ann still talks about the girls she overheard in the bathroom after the movie, discussing the end.

"Oh my gaaawd, it was soooooo sad, I din't know that was going to happen at all"

I'm sure they were refering to him dying. These are girls used to stupid Hollywood sappy happy endings after all.

It's mostly made funny by how Ann does the voice, it's the perfect late teen hard of thinking voice. She'll never do the voice at any other time dammit.

My favourite reaction is still my sister-in-law's loud, Birmingham accented, "whoies 'e takin' uh piss?!!!" at the end of The Blair Witch Project, in a crowded theatre.

This is why I can't sit through Citizen Kane, I already know how it ends. I'm not even joking. It just seems unwatchable when I already know what rosebud is. Feel free to disagree, I'm just sayin.

Well, I agree with you you couldn't have the same experience that you otherwise would have, but that doesn't mean the movie couldn't be enjoyable aside from that - I mean, many people have seen it a couple of times, right?

I haven't seen it yet myself, having said that, but I will at some point.

Yeah, I've assumed as much, but to be fair, the main plot is basically figuring out what rosebud was, so... there's that...  :P

I do keep meaning to give it another shot though...

Yeah, it's true.

He was a great filmmaker though. Watched Touch of Evil just last week. I am guessing it's still a good ride.

Seen that one a couple times.

I like his monologue in Moby Dick, really nice if you don't trail off midway through (it's a bit long).

Well, Rosebud is really more of a macguffin. The search for what that word is refering to may be the excuse for the narrative, the point of the movie is exploring the life of Charles Foster Kane.

Rosebud's not a MacGuffin.  A MacGuffin is something in the plot that although totally meaningless, and perhaps even invisible, to the viewer, propels the motivations of the characters in the story.  Hitchcock movies are full of MacGuffins, as do most heist/caper films.

Rosebud is more of a cryptic question to the audience and has no real bearing on the characters in the movie.
