No Tobey Maguire in ROBOTECH - YET

Quote from: The Hollywood Reporter
Maguire, WB attack the big screen with 'Robotech'

After slipping on a mask for Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire might be slipping into a giant robot for "Robotech."

After a lengthy negotiation, Warner Bros. Pictures has picked up the rights to bring anime classic "Robotech," which featured giant robots known as mechas, to the big screen. Maguire is producing through his Maguire Entertainment banner and is eyeing the lead role in what the studio plans on being a tentpole sci-fi franchise.

More here.

Lessee, Transformers opened July 3, today's September 7, sooo...it took them 66 days from scrambling around for something that involved giant robots in any way to announcing it with a major star possibly attached. Yep. That's sure lengthy, alright.

Sitting in a room with studio execs from Warner Brothers? Trying to explain what Robotech is, and trying to convince them why they should help produce a live action version of it? Even a single day of that would seem lengthy to me.

  Hopefully never.

I know they're going to do Voltron eventually. It got greenlit last year.

Am I the only one who, upon rewatching some of these shows, and besides discovering that they were anime, realizes that most of them were just, well ... crappy?

Do you mean live action of animated? Because they already had one of those.

Oh, I'm with you there 100%. Robotech is one of the most overrated shows (not just anime) of all time.

Yeah, putting two things together that I refuse to watch just makes it extra convenient and easy to avoid. :)
