iTunes Version NOT the same
« on: September 04, 2007, 11:19:19 PM »
Just to save you guys the trouble, there's a good 10 minutes difference between the version on iTunes and the version Mike riffs on.  It's not a "drift" problem like I've had before with iTunes videos, it's a "Mike talking about stuff that I never see/hear" problem.  I assume the edition on DVD is the "uncut" whereas the iTunes version is what was on TV.

Needless to say, syncing is difficult to impossible.

Interesting, is the Unaired Pilot available on Itunes, since it's about 70 minutes, iirc, I am curious if you got that instead.

The one on itunes is like 43 minutes whereas the DVD is 53. The DVDs don't say anything was extended or "uncut" other than that 73 minute version of the pilot that never made it to air.

When the pilot was first shown on tv it was ~52 minutes long, this is the one on the DVD that Mike used.

There's and extended cut, ~73 minutes, that's a bonus feature on the dvd that isn't available (legally) anywhere else and really is only confusing the matter.

After the pilot showed for the first time on tv it would have been edited down to a regular ~42 minute time for repeats, etc.  I guess this is what iTunes is selling for some reason.

Genesis is 43 minutes and 31 seconds on iTunes.  Don't Look Back is 42:51, so yeah it looks like that may be what the did.

Just $1.99 but I wanted to save the rest of youse the trouble.

Ahh, interesting. that would be something to write to the iTunes people about perhaps, is they aren't making clear that it's cut,

Though being NBC I imagine they don't give a rats ass at the moment since they are pulling out of iTunes in a couple of months.

FWIW, it's not an extended cut.  It uses many of the same scenes that were later used in the aired pilot but about half of it is dramatically different from what the series became.  Not that it matters for the Rifftrax but if you wanted the unaired pilot and then jumped into episode two you'd be very confused.

For what it's worth (or FWIW to the kids), I did email iTunes last night and they said they didn't give a rat's ass.  Not in so many words but it was, "Apple takes the quality of the items offered on the iTunes Store seriously and will investigate the issue with this item."  Which is Apple for, "Sucks for you."  :D

If I had bought the whole box set,  I'd be pissed.

Hmmm, I bought the whole box set!

I assume the 73 minute version is a bonus version and i can watch the 52 minute version that Mike used.    Uh, right?   :speechless:

By boxed set I meant "boxed set" on iTunes (which is actually "complete season" since it doesn't have a box).  I assume you actually bought the DVD box set.  The DVD box set has the Mike version.

When the pilot first aired it had the scene where the cheerleader sticks her hand in the garbage disposal.  You couldn't get that version of the pilot on iTunes because the garbage disposal people were pissed or something.  Does the iTunes version you have include that scene?  Is that scene in the dvd version of the pilot?

The scene is there on the DVD.  They CGIed out the In-Sink-Erator name.

Well, if the gang is willing to do an NTSC and a PAL version to compensate for different frame rates, maybe they'd also consider doing an iTunes version. It wouldn't seem to require much more than a little tedious editing.
