The All-Purpose Professional Wrestling Thread
« on: August 30, 2007, 03:31:34 PM »
This thread is any wrestling fans on the Rifftrax forum (which I understand is a rare breed here) to discuss recent shows, news items, speculations, and dream scenarios for WWE, TNA, ROH, whatever. Any anti-wrestling posts will not be tolerated. If you're not a fan, don't post here.

Breaking news today

---

Credit to The Wrestling Observer site:

WWE suspends 10 wrestlers
by Dave Meltzer

WWE today officially suspended 10 of its performers based on information received from investigators in the Albany, NY district attorneys office.

None of the names have been released but it will likely be obvious over the next week who at least some of them are.

The suspensions would likely be based on proof that performers were using Signature Pharmacy or another Internet prescription type firm after the implemenation of the Wellness policy.

The company also has informed all performers that beginning 11/1, the company will publicly release the names of anyone who is suspended under drug policy violations.

---

NY Daily News is reporting:

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/2007/08/30/2007-08-30_top_wwe_names_emerge_in_doping_scandal.html

Randy Orton,
Charles Haas, Jr.,
Adam "Edge" Copeland,
Robert "King Booker" Huffman,
Shane "Gregory Helms" Helms,
Mike "Simon Dean" Bucci,
Anthony "Santino Morella" Carelli,
John "John Morisson" Hennigan,
Darren "William Regal" Matthews,
Ken "Mr. Kennedy" Anderson and
Chavo Guerrero

---

Now, there's speculation that that list isn't accurate, but if it is, holy crap, RAW has nobody on it now!

Because President Bonnie Hammer thought it would "stretch the imagination."

I love wrestling, but this:

It doesn't really scream "stretch the imagination."

ESPN gives us a different list:

"WWE did not release the names of those suspended. A source close to the investigation said that WWE was told that the following wrestlers were among the clients of one of the pharmacies under investigation, Signature of Orlando: Shoichi Funaki, Dave Bautista, Adam "Edge" Copeland, Chris "Masters" Mordetsky, John "Johnny Nitro" Hennigan, and Shane Helms. Chris Benoit, the wrestler who killed his wife and son before hanging himself in June, was also a Signature client, as were two other wrestlers who recently died, Eddie Guerrero and Brian "Crush" Adams."

Batista I can understand, same with Masters, but Edge?  I never saw that one coming.  I have noticed that John Morrison was looking bigger than usual, though.

I'm glad you're lieing, otherwise I would have to kill someone to make the buzzing in my head go away.

Well according to other sites, some of the names on that list are connected to the clinic well before the wellness program was initiated, and Edge has talked about using steroids to help him recover from his neck injury a while back, and Regal has had some tough times with things like that in the past too.  I'm hoping these are old cases just being relooked over, rather than new instances of wrestlers juicing.

Good news and bad news.

Bad news:
Quote
WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE SmackDown talent Eugene as of September 1. We wish Eugene the best in all future endeavors.

That has got to suck.

"We're suspending ten of our top talents, but we don't need you."

Good news:

Could we keep the spoilers out of the wrestling thread please? I try and avoid 'em as much as possible.  You have to wonder though, if they're gonna take the belt off of Morrison for his wellness issues, is Umaga gonna lose his title as well?

Oh, and Cryme Tyme were released apparently because of a very strange encounter at a house show with Cade & Murdoch.  They were counted out, even though they were still in the ring, and CT were pissed, removing the ref's belt and auctioning it to the crowd.  It didn't go down too well with the backroom staff.

keep in mind that the 14 wrestlers on Sports Illustrated list is not a list of guys that tested positive on a drug test, rather they are wrestlers that recieved banned substances through the mail after the wellness program was instated in the WWE

There could definately be more guys on the roster who are juicing, just not getting them via perscription in the mail.

I'm really happy about Punk getting the belt. Its like poetic justice. Even though Punk is the most popular guy on ECW, they've been kind of tentative about actually pushing him. Then their champ gets busted with drugs and the title goes to Mr. Straight Edge himself.

oh, and btw BIG DADDY V RULES

The suspentions remind me of the great movie Repossessed. Mean Gene Oakerland and Jesse Ventura do wrestling commentary at the end. Great piece of dialog.

[Devil possessed Linda Blair uses powers to make Leslie Neilson look like Rambo]
Linda Blair - "Who needs steroids?"
Mean Gene - "Steroids aren't used in wrestling anymore..."
Jesse Ventura - (rubbing arm)"Or any less..."
