The Talk Show I'd Watch
« on: August 11, 2007, 08:27:17 PM »
By "The Talk Show I'd Watch," I mean the talk show YOU'D watch.

Basically, this is a thread where you give your idea of an entertaining talk show, and what MAKES an entertaining talk show.

Two possibilites from me:
A show hosted by Pat Robertson (700 Club) and Dr. Michael Shermer (Skeptic Magazine.)- It would end in blood and tears before the end of the first season, but it would be worth it.
or
Just a talk show where less famous, behind the scenes people come in as guests. Off Broadway production people, more writers, etc...

What are your ideas?

I thought of an idea for a talk show once that could be neat... I call it "The Joe Schmoe Talk Show."

Basically, it's exactly what it sounds like - some normal, everyday, run of the mill average guy, who has famous people on the show and just kind of chats with them about inconsequencial stuff. I firmly believe that just about anyone could be as popular a talk show host as, say, Ellen, given a good enough writing staff and lots of freebies to give out to the audience and random fans at home.

Another thing that would make a neat talk show would be something along the lines of "This is Daniel Cook," which for you non-Canucks is an 8 year old kid who interviews people who have interesting (to a kid) jobs... baker, park ranger, ski instructor, zoo keeper, etc. I bet with a little planning and the right kid (Daniel Cook's replacement, Emily Young, is PROOF of how important this is... stupid little brat) a talk show with a child host could be really fun.

And, of course, let us not forget Gentle Ben...

In lue of what I just saw, this is really unoriginal, but how about a talk show hosted by Crow and Tom? That could be a kick, potentially. Though the boys were often at their best when they were especially unfocused.

is that real? cause at least the one guy being interviewed who starts talking about edutainment makes it sound like a mockumentary

It is a mockumentary, it's from a show called Time Trumpet. It "looks back" from 2031 or thereabouts at the previous 30 years.

The show was done by Armando Innauuci who's a pretty sharp satirist.

As far as I know, the future hasn't happened yet, so maybe.

I'd watch Space Ghost: Coast to Coast if they'd be kind enough to make more of it...

Aw who'm I kidding? I watch it anyway. :^)

I'm a bit of a sicko, I like medical anomalies, so I'd love to watch a show where they bring out doctors and talk about weird things they've seen in their line of work.  I think it'd be fascinating to hear about what kind of weird stuff is out there.  But I'm probably the only one who would watch it.

I think all talk shows are too long and boring.

I'd like to see a Jerry Springer type show where instead of bleeping out curse words, they'd just bleep out words completely at random for no apparent reason.  Any word.  Words like "the" or "hat" or "am" or "very".  And instead of blurring out people's naughty bits when they exposed themselves to the camera, they'd blur out random body parts, like people's knees, or their hair, or their left pinky.

That would cause more seizures than those Japanese video games. But they would only happen to people who would watch it, sooooo...
Go for it.
