I AM METALUNA! :^)
Anyways, I touched on this over in the Uwe Boll thread, but I thought I'd give it its own topic since it applies to much more than just Uwe Boll movies. I had a recent epiphony wherein I realized that a cheesy movie isn't the same thing as a bad movie. I also realized that there are even certain genres of movie (Like Video Game Adaptations) that qualify as good movies BECAUSE they're cheesy!
A cheesy movie, in my opinion, is any movie that has that certain quality to it that says, "We're not gonna win any Oscars with this one, but enjoy!" A healthy portion of the movies made fall into this category, and if I take a good hard look at my DVD collection I find that all my favorite movies could be considered cheesy. In fact I may just hate good movies, as odd as that sounds. I don't like the pretentious, "Oh, the tragedy!" movies that tend to make it to the Oscars. I'd much rather see a ninja take on a dinosaur than one man's struggle with his sexuality any day. :^)
So I submit that cheesy movies aren't BAD movies so much as they aren't BRILLIANT movies, and that being a brilliant movie just might actually make it a less enjoyable and thus worse movie.
What do you think, sirs?
