Behold! The Power Of Cheese
« on: October 05, 2006, 11:58:34 AM »
*Pak-Man is bathed in a pure-white light as he writes his 500th post*

I AM METALUNA! :^)

Anyways, I touched on this over in the Uwe Boll thread, but I thought I'd give it its own topic since it applies to much more than just Uwe Boll movies. I had a recent epiphony wherein I realized that a cheesy movie isn't the same thing as a bad movie. I also realized that there are even certain genres of movie (Like Video Game Adaptations) that qualify as good movies BECAUSE they're cheesy!

A cheesy movie, in my opinion, is any movie that has that certain quality to it that says, "We're not gonna win any Oscars with this one, but enjoy!" A healthy portion of the movies made fall into this category, and if I take a good hard look at my DVD collection I find that all my favorite movies could be considered cheesy. In fact I may just hate good movies, as odd as that sounds. I don't like the pretentious, "Oh, the tragedy!" movies that tend to make it to the Oscars. I'd much rather see a ninja take on a dinosaur than one man's struggle with his sexuality any day. :^)

So I submit that cheesy movies aren't BAD movies so much as they aren't BRILLIANT movies, and that being a brilliant movie just might actually make it a less enjoyable and thus worse movie.

What do you think, sirs?

I think you are describing the concept of "good bad".

I like Showgirls. Yeah, sue me. It's just beautiful half naked women dancing with a corny plotline interweaved through it and filled with enough material to laugh your ass off. Ow, and Kyle McLachlan.

A handful of Oscar winners:

2000 - Gladiator
1998 - Shakespeare in Love
1997 - Titanic
1996 - The English Patient

I'll take Evil Dead over these any day of the week (or weekend.)

I had a recent epiphony

Is that the new high end stereo system everyone's talking about?

Or is it a counterfeit Epiphone guitar?

Sorry, epiphany. My ability to spell is just a few words short of my vocabulary. :^)

I am right there with you Pac!
I am just not sure if I like 'good bad' movies or just bad movies in general.
I like movies that are so bad they are good.
I also like movies that are so bad, that they are bad. But I make them enjoyable by either riffing them aloud (if others are present) or even by myself. I guess it is an addiction if I do it by myself, right?
I do enjoy riffing socially, but I will riff alone with no hesitation.

If you are really into punishment, try Zombiegeddon. It's a newish release by Troma, that even has an intro done by Uwe Boll saying, and I quote, "This movie is a piece of shit!"

Wow.

'nuff said.
Grapes? I hate grapes, I can't stand grapes. I loathe grapes. All kinds of grapes. I hate green grapes and I hate purple grapes. I hate grapes with seeds, I hate grapes without seeds. I hate them peeled and nonpeeled. I hate them in bunches, one at a time and in small groups of twos and threes.

Could you make the shadow spelled wrong? That would really give the logo that little je ne sais quoi.

The shadow effect behind the Epiphony text.

It is from the same layer as the text.

I guess it kinda looks like an "a", but it's an "o". It's the mirror image of the text.
