Batman and Robin
« on: October 04, 2006, 11:25:07 AM »
I know this has probably been mentioned to death, but I really feel this needs to be brought up.  This movie absolutely, positively MUST be riffed.  There is no avoiding it, this movie is beyond terrible.  More than that, it's famously bad.  It destroyed an icon, ruined a franchise, and fooled many millions of people into viewing it.  I think more people were suckered into watching this than any other painfully-bad movie in history (Except for Phantom Menance, of course).

Another reason is that the material is made for riffing.  EVERYTHING about this flick is so over the top and ridiculous that any riffing material would write itself.  Sure, it's a little like picking on the retarded kid at recess, but this retarded kid had it coming.

Besides, if you guys want promotion, this movie is it.  Every Batman fan will want to see this for SOME kind of retribution from this movie.  Hell, even the non-fans will.  Riff this and the word will spread.

So PLEASE for the sake of the world's sanity, Riff the living the crap out of Batman and Robin.

Hence my first sentence.  There is already several other honorable mention threads, I felt this deserved one too.

Listen to Tarantulas, Shinigami.

He has the highest post count, so he automatically gets to throw his authoritative weight around.

Pfft, Tarantulas doesn't scare me, what with his weakness to the power of Star Force: Fugitive Alien 2. What a wuss.  :P

See...as I mentioned previously: http://rifftrax.com/smf/index.php?topic=391.0

This is why we need another section devoted to requests.

Batman and Robin would be perfect!  And you know Mike has had it in his sights.  He gives it a thorough  riffing in his book Mega Cheese. That is the type of movie I hope to see more of.  The rifftrax movies have been bad, but nowhere near MST3K bad. (except star trek V, fith element, road house, crossroads, top gun, xxx, cocktail...ok maybe they have been that bad) but still they could be much worse.  But I agree a separate section for requests would be better, because no one is going to page through all 500 pages of the suggestion thread.  Oh and in case you think I forgot Troll 2

As bad as Batman & Robin is, and as sure I am Mike would do a great job with it, I don't think it's worth the trouble. It's HILARIOUSLY bad. Same thing with Troll 2. When a movie falls into camp territory it riffs itself.

The first three Batman movies, on the other hand...

I wholeheartedly disagree.  I really think this movie deserves a professional Riffing.  I love the Batman franchise and I truly think that blasting this movie is necessary.

Come on, was Space Mutiny too hilariously bad to riff.  I think not.

And yes, the other three Batman movies would be great to Riff.  Especially Returns, even though I like that movie.  But this one needs it the most by a long shot.

The worser the movie is, the funnier its gonna be when it gets riffed

I know I'm in a minority here, but as someone who can't make it through the Manos MST epiosde in one sitting, I don't think bad movie = funny. The whole reason we're all here is because Joel had the brilliant idea of making fun of movies. It just so happened that the only movies they could get their hands on were bad - very bad - but there's no reason you can't riff the hell out of a good movie. The things that make a for great riffing and the things that make for bad movies aren't the same.

Here's an exercise: take your favorite movie - one you yourself believe to be great - and try to riff it. Or, if you're not particularly funny, at least imagine Mike riffing it. Now do the same thing with, say, a Police Academy movie. Which riff do you think would turn out to be funnier?

Fun fact: If you search for the title "Police Academy" on IMDb.com the 14th result is MST3K's Academy Of Robots' Choice Awards. Weird.

While I agree that you certainly can take the piss out of a good movie, it seems like they purposely didn't do that with MST3K: The whole premise was that the guys in the SOL were being inflicted with bad movies, not good ones and surely it wouldn't have been *that* hard to get a hold of a good movie now and again.  There are a few in the public domain that wouldn't have cost them anything.
