Audio remastering issue with Casino Royale
« on: July 20, 2007, 06:17:43 AM »
I'm remastering Casino Royale with the RT audio and the last 3 synch lines don't match the movie dialog.  ???  I adjust the RT so it synches with the movie starting with the first synch line.  By the end of the movie the synch is usually nearly perfect but with these 3 lines the movie equivalents are nowhere close.  The riffs around these 3 synch lines don't seem to match the movie sound track either.  This despite the earlier synch lines matching just fine.

Any ideas?

1:51:39 I never understood all these elaborate tortures 1:49:43

2:00:32 I just want you to know that if all that was left of you 1:58:36

2:07:55 I didn't think they'd miss it 2:05:59

Thanks

you would need to give some more information to start with, which region, which cut of the film etc.

It's a Netflix for the US of A which I think is Region 1.  I have the NTSC rev of the Rifftrax.  Everything synchs sine until the last 3 synch lines.  Ripping the DVD was a big hassle but I can't see the audio skewing 80% of the way through the movie.
Tx

...

Just maybe, possibly... did you forget to resample the Rifftrax audio from 44100 to 48000?
That would explain why it would sync up for awhile at first, and then go out of sync towards the end.

Good idea on the sampling.  I checked and its 48000.  Also, if I had the sampling at 44 it should linearly shift so I would have synch problems ealier in the track.

I think I found the source of the synch problem - my original rip of the DVD is bad.  It freezes during playback at 1.38.21 which is just before the synch on the audio goes out.  The riff loses synch with the audio track at about 1.40 which makes sense with the DVD lock up just before this.  Ripit4me didn't work out ...

While I know many folks integrated the RT successfully, this is way too much trouble.  Too bad, I'd really like to have heard the riff.  This is the last time I ever work on an ARccOS protected disc.  Bleh!  Hopefully, Mike won't pick any more of these mega-DRM turkeys.  >:(

i had the same problem with CR when i went to reauthor.  Try DVDFabDecrypter(the Freeware trail version works fine) .  Use it to rip the entire disc to an image file(iso), wich will take about 20-30min, then load the iso into whatever virtuail drive you have, then run DVD decrypter as normal.  I used this method and i had no problem.  Also make sure you have the latest version of audacity(i think its 1.3 now), because i ran into a lot of problems with the old version.  Hope this helps.

I had the same problems. I use a program called "Sony Vegas Movie Studio" to make a Divx file of the Rifftrax and movie together. I had to stretch and move the last part of the Rifftrax a lot to get it synced up with the movie. So your not the only one that had problems with it. My big problem though was with the sound track of Casino Royal. It basically goes like this: whisper, whisper, whisper, BANG!, BANG!, BANG!, whisper, whisper, whisper.....
I spent  a lot of time adjusting the volume levels of the movie and the Rifftrax.

Sounds like you need to normalize the DVD audio when converting it from AC3 -> WAV/mp3/whatever.

It's a common problem, it took me a while to perfect my fix. I suggest you use BeLight with the settings described here: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/belight-advancedsettings.htm
