where no man is aliiiiiiiiive.

Besides the obligatory Akira & Ghost in the Shell,  one of my favorite animes is Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade(which is basically a very sophisticated Red-Riding hood story).   check it out if you can..

Ooh, I forgot about that one. I saw it once at a friend's house - yeah, that's a neat one.

I also LOVE Hajime no Ippo (renamed Fighting Spirits or some such thing for the American release).  I highly recommend it.

But I'm a sucker for even the more cliche sports anime and manga.

I find it quite hard to get into Anime series, even though I generally enjoy what I've seen.  Does Studio Ghibli count as anime? 'cause I'm a huge fan of those guys and Tales of Earthsea looks spectacular.

Oh, let's count Miyazaki.  I thought "Sherlock Hound" was lots of fun to watch.

Was anybody lost watching "Howl's Moving Castle"?  I didn't read the original book, and it took two viewings to really get all the angles.

Yeah - the Moving Castle story is not as good as Spirited Away imo.... Though the scarecrow is hot stuff....

I had a lot of fun with a small Anime series called Cyber City Oedo 808. There were only about 3 or 4 episodes, but it was very cool. Good Sci-fi.

Awww...man, I love that series. 3 episodes and every one a blinder. Though you have to watch it with the crappy English dubbing  ;D

Spirited Away is a work of genius - it took that and Princess Mononoke to convert my girlfriend to Anime. And quite right, the bouncing scarecrow is easily the best thing in Howl's... (not to say it's a bad film, just the scarecrow's ace).

My favorite series of all time is Azumanga Daioh.  It's like the Seinfeld of anime in that it's not really about anything  specific, but it's so funny and so weird.

TV:
Monster
Slayers (the first season was weird/funny, then it sucked)
Darker Than Black (this one is new, and weird, and kind of confusing because not much has been explained yet, but it's interesting so far)

I finished Monster a few months ago, and I have to ask, fan to fan, how did you feel about the end?  No spoiler details needed, but I'm curious, because I don't know anyone else who's ever finished it.

I'd love to talk about it sometime, but I haven't finished it yet. My wife and I are about halfway through, and we've agreed to only watch it together since I first found it, so it's taking some time to get through. We like it so far, but I have to say that I did start to find it a little less interesting once the mystery about who was responsible for the murders was resolved (and much earlier on than I expected, too).
