I think we should all agree not to go faster than light. I know it's already a law, but that doesn't always stop people.

To add to Sideswipe's thought, I was told by my physics professor that the nature of warp speed in Star Trek requires a ship to slip into hyperspace, which is a space that is unexplained except that we know it is removed from regular space, which would allow the ship to move freely without coming in contact with anything else (except for ANOTHER ship that has slipped into hyperspace but what are the odds of that??)

Very small.  Like there could be anything living in hyperspace.  People are just jumping at shadows.

I think they've changed how "warp" works three or four times over the years.

Also going back to the original premise of the thread.  I think that a cloaked ship might the see Enterprise barrelling down upon them and get the hell out of the way.
